Pro Evolution Soccer 2008 - Official Thread

I gettting pretty ****ed of with this game atm, lag this evening is terrible (except for the games I had with Tom for some reason?) and I just tried single player for the first time - not good, I wasn't expecting much anyway.

Patch needs to come ASAP.
 
Pro-G review of 360 PES 2008 got a 9.0 score. (7 for PS3)

In the PS3 review we said that the most disappointing thing about PES 2008 was that if it wasn't crippled by its technical problems it would one of the best Pro Evolution Soccer games ever made. Does that make the 360 version one of the best PES games ever made? As someone who has played every Pro Evo game Konami has brought to the UK, I'd have to say yes.

I must be missing something here , i got my Pro Evolution Soccer 7 today for PS3 an its fine , better then Fifa , i have not see any slow down while playing the game ?

Cutscenes and replays suffering low framerate? Yes.
In-game slowdown at any point? Nope.

There is something odd going on, cos I've not seen a jot of low framerate during actual play, but obviously others are suffering really badly from it.
The suggestion people have been making about it being TV specific seems impossible, but in the absence of any other reasoning, it's the only thing that holds any water at all.
Bizarro.

Online play is shoddy at best though, I suppose at least they've got straight to work on sorting it.

Anyway, I think it's Ace, no regrets in buying it at all. :)
 
Bit frustrated with the poor framerate problem. I'm hoping I'll stop noticing it in the end. Supposed to be releasing a patch to fix it though. God knows when that will come out...
 
It personally could be worse for me, I could have traded my fantastic alternative in FIFA for PES and have no football games to play :D

But I ain't that silly...
 
I just played this with my mate and it's quite apalling.

2 massive errors in one game, firstly I take a shot and his keeper saves it, knocking it infront of him, just as I'm about to run on and tap it in it gives a corner. Nice.

Secondly I hit a first time shot from 30 yards and it hits the underside of the bar, hits the keeper in the back and goes in. Queue loads of cheering from me, only for the game to give a corner. I mean WTF? I've just scored!

The animation is frankly shocking. Players run with the ball exactly the same as they did in SWOS, just in 3D. My mate walked in and said "The animations shocking!" and I'd totally agree. Aside from that the shooting just feels so basic, especially in comparison to Fifa08.

I'll try and stick with it for the sake of the fact I've paid for it, but the game is soulless and frankly, it's probably the 3rd worst football game I've played in 10 years (the worse ones being WLS '98 and ISS on PS2).

I'm trying to give it a chance but I just can't be bothered with playing AI, I buy it for MP. I still feel I liked PES6 more, the animations and physics seemed better, the players have ridiculous control over the ball and they look bloody stupid when running without the ball.

Commentary and sound is an improvment but still quite poor.
 
So Nokkon you critised the demo, said the engine was way outdated, heard all the comments about how bad it was yet you traded in FIFA (which it sounded as if you were enjoying) for it?

I just don't understand the logic :p
 
I've refrained from posting in this thread until now.

Been playing this for most of the day and I am disgusted it has been released in it's current state.

Most people I know buy Pro for the online aspect, myself included. It is horrific and I am very disappointed. Will be going back to 6 until the issues are sorted.

This is on the 360 by the way

Well, I've liked all the others (though, I wasn't keen on PES6), but I didn't think I'd like Fifa and I did.
I'm not liking it because I didn't want to like it. I'm not liking it because I think it's ****.
