Pro Evolution Soccer 2008 - Official Thread

Had some great times with 2 myself. It was around then that I was known as 'the' Pro Evo player on our estate. Best mate used to always big me up to everyone so there were plenty of challengers, all were sent packing. I remember this one lad (Who is still on my FL and recently caned me on FIFA 08) who had heard I was decent on it and wanted to challenge me. We went back to his after a night at the local, he was giving it all the talk about how he was going to destroy me, how he beats everyone etc. I was 3-0 up in 10 minutes, toyed with him for the rest of the game and ended up winning 4-1, he went sick :D.

Same sort of thing with 4, mate had it for pc so whenever we'd get back from a night out he'd usually stick it on and either let me play the second half or just have a go at them from the start. I think we both found it funny that I was still smashing most people 6 or 7 nil even though I was blitzed.

Now if a new Pro Evo could just even get close to that kind of experience, I'd seriously play it pretty much every day until the next version.

I'd agree. I called PES2008 soulless before and I still stand by that after playing it some more.

PES2 and PES4 had heart and soul put into it, and you could tell. It was football.
The new one is just... I can't think of a word to describe my thoughts on it.

Nice to know I'm not the only one of the thought 4 was the pinnacle of Pro Evo.

They seem to have tried to go back to some elements of 4, with more emphasis on dribbling and the ability to score screamers from nigh-on the halfway line, but as some have said it does feel rather soulless.

Weird I always though 5 & 6 were loads better than 4.

As for 2008 I have it on ps2 and it's like a tweaked version of 6, I also have it on PC and it's pretty much a different game. I've only had a few matches on the PC version but it seems really good, more realism than before. Some of the players look rubbish, some rather good, they still need work on the graphics tbh, even on the highest setting it doesn't really look that great.

I shall get it on he ps3 today too.

Oh, and I've never heard such bad in-game music in a game. Ever.

Football! Soccer! Football! SOCCER! Football! Soccer! Football! SOCCER!
I mean, what the ****?
The music is actually alright, but it's that particular song that stands out and brings the rest of the tracks down.
Do what I did, go into the music bit and remove it from all playlists.

Just got my copy of pes2008 finally (stupid post) and I am sat with it infront of me at work and was looking on the back of the box and the xbox live 'features' bit says co-op 2 does this actually exist? Because I haven't seen it mentioned anywhere else before? Would love it if it was!

Sorry if this question has already been asked!

Okay, what about the other song after it. Sounds something like
"Dee bi, Dee Be, Dee be chi cha" or something. Honestly, it's SO bad.
The only decent song is the first one.

Also, what's with Parquet on the intro instead of football?

Yeah it does work, I managed it with some foreign guys online. not sure how though...

I'm starting to get the feeling you don't like this game mate??? Or am I miss reading your posts :p

Bad music is bad music. I've played some good games with bad music and I still comment on it. I'm just being honest.
As for having parquet on the intro, why?

just got the pc version, hate it , but I'l at least give it the time of day to see if it improves, though its's got nothing on pes 6 with superpatch. On Pes 2008 newcastle still have solano and don't have faye, now I know that I can edit the game but I find that lacklustre. Then I have the fact the gfx are poor (pc problem i know) but pes 6 runs fine on max (my gfx card doesn't support pixel shading iirc)

Anyhoo, MAJOR problems with the goalkeeper AI, we had them on TOP setting and they were absolutely ****. Given saved a penalty then looked the complete wrong way for the rest of the half, happened again with Valdes. Then Robbo can't save anything, nor can any other keeper. The AI is awful, and the AI script hangs, and then just sits there.

The game is now way to fast (was to slow in the demo) and everybody runs like a chicken.

The ref is beyond annoying, the music is turd (ok not a major problem)

My mate lent me this, already uninstalled, christ I'm so glad I didn't buy it

They got something right.

lol thought someone would pick up on that, I was mid - rant though, but it truly is an awful game imo. What worries me is this is obv there "new" engine, which is just the old one struggling with bells and whistles (no suprises why we have slowdown) and that this is the engine for PES for the next 4 years or so.

As a general trend, it does seem to be those who have been with Pro Evo for years that are having the most trouble accepting 2008.

Certainly from my point of view it's not that I think 2008 is a terrible game, and if I played it I would probably enjoy it to a certain extent. It's just that the standard has been set so high over the years that it's possible for a generally decent game to still be nowhere near the standards set in the past.
