I see so many people that have this zany energetic "get up and go" type mentality, they seem like happy people, I would some of that please :-), can someone send me a link to a decent supplier of this "get up and go" cheers.......oh, and no competitors........

seriously though, I do see this in people, especially successful business men/woman, they have this energy about themselves, their not scared to take chances and when they do their positivity seems carry them through and they usually succeed, take my boss for example, yeah he's a pain in the bum sometimes but I do respect him for what he has achieved, he really knows how to succeed and make something out of nothing, time and time again he has put his businesses on the line to borrow stupidly large amounts of money to build or purchase new businesses, he has an idea and just goes after it, a year later he'll have another restaurant/bar built earning money, yeah I know you have to be pretty clued up to do this but from what I've learn't from working with him all these years is that it's more than cleverness/intelligence, it's his self-belief and faith in what he's is doing that seems play the biggest role in his success, where do people get this from ?, you can help by just answering that question or you can delve deeper into the rabbit hole with the next couple of paragraphs if you want,

now I'm thinking it's more to do with how you are your born or taught at a very young age, take this for example, you have two people that want to move to somewhere that has better job prospects, person (A) thinks "hey I need to move to get a better job" and he does it without any reservations, person (B) has the same thought, but, also person (B) feels too scared to move due to the uncertainty's of this chosen path, now person (A) didn't have any of these feelings of doubt, he just moves to help better his life, so in essence it was easy for him to do, for person (B) on the other hand it was very hard, surely then, it makes sense that person (A) has the advantage because he doesn't have any doubtful reservations about making the move or taking a chance,

so what does this mean?, well what does it mean?, I think it means the obvious, that we are all different, and all feel different, and we all naturally react differently to different situations, I think people forget this sometimes, one man may say "just do it, it's a piece of cake, you have no excuses" but if this man is of the mentality that he doesn't have/feel any reservations about making such a life altering decision then yes, for him its was a piece of cake, he is judging the situation not only from his own experiences but from his own mindset also, he is presuming that we all feel the same way about doing things as he does, a common mistake, yes the we all live in the same world but we all don't live in the same mindset,

so then, if you've read this far, how do you help someone that has doubts about making life changes for the better, they didn't ask for this feelings of doubt but they still take up residence in their mind and taunt them from time to time, how do they find this "get up and go", to live life to the full, to have great self belief, to not worry about the future, to not look back with regrets,

oh wise people of OcUK, what say you.

change your outlook on life.

work out what you want from life and then set out to go get it. if you want to own nice things (house abroad, Rolex, Ferrari whatever) you are going to have to work for it. they wont come to you.

winning the lottery is not an option. the only place success comes before work is in the dictionary!

/edit also stop smoking weed!!! :D

they just do it, its nothing special or something you can achieve. Just plain and simple looking after number one and putting every effort into what they're concentrating on, its not hard, all it takes is effort.

"Courage is resistance to fear, mastery of fear, not absence of fear" Mark Twain. Most fears are illusions anyway. False Evidence Appearing Real. I have yet to face a fear and not discovery that it was a figment of my imagination. In facing the fear my reward was always without question progress and more often than not a wonderful experience.

50% of highly motivated people I have met are either trying to prove something or just like the buzz of feeling superior. The other 50% just have a lot of passion and love what they are doing.

It's something your either born with or is instilled in you from past experence. You can change your outlook but it takes a lot of work and some people just aren't made that way. Do you feel guilty that your not as highly motivated as other people?

Do something new.

I was fairly conservative about doing things, until one day in early 2005 I decided I should have an adventure, and booked myself up a voyage on a tall ship (www.tallships.org).

I went away for a week. It was the most awesome week in my life until then. I was back on the ships again within 3 months to go away for half a month. I have now been on about 6 or so separate occasions and I sail as a volunteer deckhand with the organisation. I love it.

I learned about taking risks, having control, conquering fear, just "getting on with it" and how to get along with tons of people when you have no choice.

Since then I have gotten into dinghy sailing, got really big on dancing jive, and keep going off on mini adventures and holidays which make people feel visibly tired when I tell them about it. I'm more confident, outgoing, and above all, interesting. I'm now considered "crazy" just for seeing things that look like fun, and going for them.

This attitude filters down into other aspects of life too - when there's so much good stuff to go and get, you naturally become a go-getter as you seek it all out :D

intresting post

thanks, intresting and informative post, sounds like you had really good fun and at the same time it helped you, perhaps I should just take the plunge and do something different like that, still quite scary though :o,

/edit also stop smoking weed!!! :D

I stopped doing that a long time ago, although they do say the after effects start to hit you around 30 :(:).

who says that? what a load of tosh.

ok ok, just something I read, lets not turn this into a thread that argues the pro and cons of cannabis please, there are many sites that say that smoking cannabis from an early age can adversely effect memory and make you more susceptible to psychosis later in life, usually 25-30 is quoted, if you want to continue this discussion then please do so here http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=17760040&highlight=cannabis, cheers.

Agreed!

Do you skip breakfast by chance?

I'm very much the same as you, I have very low self esteem and I'm very shy, but when I eat breakfast, Im never as miserable as when I skip it and I seem more full of myself and allot happier and chirpier which makes it easier to socialise. Small changes like that to diet, or to your day might make a difference.

Walk to work? Ride to work? Go jogging?

The body and mind are very connected, stimulate both you may feel more alive for it and have more "get up and go"

you blatentlyy wrote that a lil bit high.. that sounds like a "stoner theory".. just smoke weed at weekends,, maybe the occasional joint before bed.. than you will find a "get up and go" attitude..

edit: you say youve quit soo obviously what I just wrote is all pointless lol

The sad thing is even though I gave up smoking cannabis nearly 10 years I can still churn out "stoner thoerys", I've allways been a bit random though :o:D.

Strange, I was thinking the same thing last week, there are a few people at work who always have energy, and are alert all the time, always seem to be giving 110% without fail.

Just wish I knew why I can't do it. :(

What actually scares people about these things?

I've heard tons of stuff like "Oh, I might get seasick", "What if I'm no good at it?", "I'm scared of heights", "What'd I do without the internet?", "I'd miss my beauty routine"....

The whole point with a lot of these things is - well - what if you are naturally good at it? How will you ever know if you don't try? And what'll you tell your grandchildren?
"Yes, I had time, money and opportunity to do lots of adventurous things when I was young, but I was a bit scared, so I didn't."
"Why don't you do them now, grampa?"
"I'm still a bit scared..."

There are 70+ year olds on some of these voyages I go on. And they're often every bit as good as the younguns. It's never too late to break out and do something exciting.

Everyone's in the same boat (groan), esp on these tallship voyages, it's sail-training, you get taught EVERYTHING. And most of the time you're too busy in the thick of it all to think about cleanse/tone/moisturise and your forums.

The point I'm trying to make is that you have this life ahead of you - and if you steer clear of the exciting stuff, it'll remain mediocre. What are you working for? A living? So what is that living, telly, beer and slobbing out on the sofa? While those things are nice too, there is SO MUCH more to life and it's a waste not to experience some more aspects of it.

What is life if not just a period of time that we have been blessed with, inside which we can do some really fun things.

Once you realise that real adventure and excitement is on your doorstep, you'll rediscover that get-up-and-go that got-up-and-went.

I agree, thanks sara, you've given me some food for thought, I do worry about simple little things like not having the internet and stuff but theres more to life than the net I suppose, these last few years I feel I've been slowly uploading my life to the net, it's strange, you can kind of lose yourself in it and forget about the outside world sometimes and even use it as a form of escapism, I do feel better when I'm being active I know that much.

I know exactly where the OP is coming from. I have a friend who I hardly ever see cos he is always doing something. I tend to only really hear from him on a monday when I email to ask how his weekend went.

I try to get as much as I can done during the weekend as I don't really have time during the week, but I'm lucky if I can get more than a couple of things done. Yet when I get an email from him, he will have done a shed load of DIY, gone shopping, worked on his cars, gone for a meal, played squash, gone for long walks, met up with people for a drink etc etc, all in the space of the same 2 days during which I have only managed to pop to a diy shop, get home work on a bit of diy, (normally unsuccessfully) and that's about it. I just have so little energy or motivation and I find it really difficult to get myself motivated cos I know that whatever I try to do (ie diy etc etc) will go wrong.

It really gets me down sometimes cos I wish I could achieve more but I never manage to.

I've just driven in the US for the 1st time. It was awesome and scary and fantastically exciting:D But I did it, and next year I will do it again. I went online once to get a google map. I was so blown away by that amazing country that nearly all of my time there was outside in the raw beauty of nature. There is a world out there m8, go breath it in:) Go look at the colours of autumn, amazing.
