And only a few years before that, those 4 bloody ghosts looked so real when they chased PacMan that many people actually had nightmares about them!!!

Its only a matter of time before we will be taking the mickey out of people who said the crysis looked real because they are stuck on using one of those cheap and nasty budget 8800GTX cards

LOL

Yup its mad how things progress, sometimes though i long for the days of the old nes and snes. Things were so much simpler and in a lot of cases more fun :(

IT was, and for good reason.

Unreal was a legend.

U2 was dire.

In your opinion. :o

I thought U2 was brilliant. (Although I will admit I have never played the original). Fantastic graphics for the time, decentish storyline and challenging gameplay. Of course compared to some of the games we have now it is overshadowed but for a quick blast it rocked.

Killer Instinct on the SNES

Loved it so much, that when I heard that there is also KI-Gold on the N64, I got the N64

Similarly, have you played AvP on the Atari Jaguar? - graphically its dire, while the world is definitely 3D, the characters are still sprites!!!! - really poor by todays standards, but that game had atmosphere that many games today simply lack. Same with Quake 1 and 2, Doom, Wolfenstein etc... They sounded like cats getting their throats cut, and looked like they had been designed for a 160x100 maximum screen rez but they rocked.

People who have not had to play those games as we had to, are really missing out - and its times like those that you can really appreciate just how far games have come... Nowadays people are not happy with anything and its this ignorance that really does let us all down.

I never completed it, but played a fair bit of it before getting bored.
Not quite as amazing as the original Unreal.
But not a bad game by any means, damn sight better than Halo on pc

I agree with the OP's appraisal of Unreal 2, except to say that its performance issues detracted greatly from the enjoyability. I remember buying a nVidia Ti 200 something or other card fully expecting to be able to play it at maximum quality. When it finally came out, the card couldnt cope. Performance was awful and I was forced to low settings. A year later with a 9800 Pro, it was still very poor. Some fundamental flaws there that should have been addressed with a patch (if not the launch version).

Also I thought the story was a sub-par and its conclusion really quite poor.

6/10.

Unreal 1 was one of the first FPS's I ever played and I remember it being a delight to this day!

Roll on Unreal 3!

Lol, dear god lets hope Crysis isn't like that :P.

For me, i quite liked Unreal 2, I found some section very enjoyable, and atmospheric, and it had a lot of variety in locations which i enjoyed (not many games do that nowadays, i mean the next level was quite literally another planet).

The first Unreal was WAAAAAAAAAAYYYYYY too long, i never finished it because it just dragged on and on and it didn't have a very good story. Some of the atmosphere certainly bested the sequel though.

Funnily enough Unreal 2 suffered from being too short, I mean it ended just when the story was just about to kick into high gear, like a recent title I might add *cough CRYSIS* cough.

I thought it was really good as well, although I never got around to completing the whole thing and sold my copy in the end.

I might see if I can find it for knockdown price today.

Would some of the Unreal 2 haters care to explain what they don't like? As all I see are "it sucks" and then a rapid backtracking from the thread.

As far as I can tell the reason a lot of people slate it is the same as the dislike for Deus Ex 2.

Its not that its a bad game, its just not a patch on the original.

I enjoyed it.

I did not like the "intermissions" where wou walk around the ship and talk to the other characters, but all in all I though it was pretty fun.

About to re-install after reading this thread.

I really enjoyed it, I also remember thinking the graphics were incredible :p

There was a particular bit inside the facility in the snowy area (can't be more precise) where you were climbing over bits of a room where an explosion had happened, I thought the lighting (bump mapping?) looked fantastic.

I'm not sure I ever finished it as really can't remember the ending...

Oh no!!!!!

Was just installing, but its asking for disk 3... and I don't have it.... Don't know what I could have done with it.

ARGH!!!!!!

Don't suppose someone could make an ISO of disk 3 for me if they have it could they??

I was thinking about this game the other day after reading something about how it was one of the most disappointing games ever....however in my opinion the game was phenomenal!

It was just one of those games that got my attention and kept it going for the full thing! Straight through, just had to complete it! The graphics too were pretty awesome and it certainly was a challenge! It might be worth a revisit infact :D
