Crysis demo – opinions

....

personally i find the whole thing of crysis a complete disgrace...
i mean lets start out it dont look anything like the vid clips spammed all over gametrailers for the last year at all even on VHIGH settings it doesn't look a shade of what we are all playing, more dodgy video edit'ing im sure...
The performance, well i have a quad core 4gig ram a AEG 8800 card cost of around £360 quid, and i cant run a game because bassicly nvidia cant make decent drivers?
or is it EA and crysis are both just out to rob the public blind and get more cash out of them for NEWER Gcards every 3-4 months...
im sure most people save long and hard to get the 8800 cards which have not even been out that long to be honest and you cant run a game with it?
Quad core is not supported .... ?
so is Quad core a complete p**s take aswell....
I Predict if the games Industry and the Greedy company's like Nvida and EA carry on the PC market will soon enough die off people will get fed up with spending very hard Earned cash on gcards and cpu's etc to run games for 3-4mnths before having to shell out another £1.000+ for a new PC!!
Or is the Master plan to get everyone useing consoles within the NEXT 3-4yrs afterall it's a damn site cheaper than PC upgrades all the time....

not sure if it's a bug but I can unload a whole clip on an enemy and they still won't die!!??

Ok fair enough it was from a distance but I've used the optic iron sight and I could tell that every shot hit the enemy as you could see him jerking.

The graphics maybe far better but the gameplay is exactly like farcry, with a new story and differnet enemy.

why wrong thread? thats MY opinion ?

Because we're fed up of 1000000000 posts moaning about their crappy computers and broken expectations that are higher than a kid's pre-pubescent balls. This thread is about actual gameplay but the moaners with their technical specs are coming in now, without actually even saying anything about the action and such.

Nothing about gameplay in that one, just spam that can be posted in the other thread where it belongs.

Yeh, I should really have put my comments in the other thread too...

Anyway, I hated it when I played the multiplayer beta, wasn't too keen on this demo either until I'd played it a bit and sorted out my settings to get it running nicely. Enemy AI will be what stops me buying it until it hits budget to be honest.

There does seem to be some badly balanced game elements which just distract from what can at times feel like a great realistic setting :(

Best part of the demo for me was the whole section after you meet up with the other squad member until you get to the coast again, just loved the way the lighting worked with everything at that point.

I don't see how anyone can even begin to compare the likes of COD & Unreal engines to the Crytek one,
sure they run fast on anyones modern PC but they are worlds apart in Graphics compared to Crisis, every blade of grass is individually moving, every leaf on every tree is moving in the wind,
the simply huge amount of destructable buildings & flora ,Judging by the list of items in the editor I think we can expect tornadoes & earth tremors, nuclear blasts ,the list goes on
the AI hit problem will be easily fixed in a patch as will other graphical glitches

Everyone loved Farcry.

riiiiight. Funny that ive read a ton of opinions that the game degerated into a pile of crap once the "trigens" got introduced out of the blue. Farcry won people over more with its graphics than anything else. For all the hype about the ai in the game pre release the actual game ai was pretty bad.

farcry was great as a game(not just graphically)...it was just the indoor levels which were a let down as they were pretty similar to doom3...they wouldnt have been so bad normally but after playing on an open island with great visuals with a go anywhere do anything approach fighting humans...the doom3 like indoor levels were never going to live up to the rest of the game fighing silly invisible monsters.

Far Cry is just one of those games that you either get or you dont.
While I appreciated the technical excellence of HL and HL2 i havent replayed them. I much prefered the nonlinearity of FC.

Try playing FC on a current rig. Far Cry AI is actually very good, it was just limited by the spare processor capacity of the rigs 3 1/2 years ago.

I agree to an extent regarding the Trigens, the gameplay got very predictable once they were involved, although the Rebellion (the level where the Mercs and the Trigens fight it out) is perhaps the best single FPS level ever. Again that could be due to it being the most open and free roaming

Comparison with FC Trigens will be the key for Crysis, how do the Aliens perform? Its one thing that even those of use with the Pre SDK havent seen anything of yet...

My opinion of the demo?
Love it.

A lot of truth in the FC revisited comments, you have the same freedom of movement (once you get to the beach, it had me worried up till then as I hate tunnel vision linearity like COD), the same ability to take on or ignore the "secondary tasks".

Compared with MP, the SP is a lot closer to the mood we are aiming for with Obsidian Edge 2, only without the gimpsuit :)

Thumbs up from me cant wait for Nov 16th

I dont agree with the farcry ai being good. When i played it the ai fell into 2 catagories very stupid or had eyes and aiming skills that would put marksmen to shame. I lost track when playing the game of the amount of times id come across an enemy stuck running against a tree, i could just walk up, whip out the knife and lay into him with it.

You had parts of the game where you'd try these stealth approach, enemies were 50 yards away and you'd be crawling prone through some knee deep high grass yet somehow theyre able to spot you like you weree out in the open banging on a drum to get their attention. Then as you cranked the difficulty up enemies would be able to become snipers with smg's from long range. I really think that without the graphics the game doesn't have much to fall back on, the ai was hyped and imo failed to deliver, then again whats new with games that hype their ai.

Crysis does seem better in gameplay terms though im happy to say. :)

Really cool game. I love the open endedness and nano suit modes. My biggest complaint is the AI though. I gave it the benefit of the doubt from what I saw in the videos, but they're definitely very dumb compared to the rest of the realism in the game. Enemies will run in fear, but they don't actualy run for cover, and also they regularly get stuck next to walls and rocks. I do like how enemies can't see you when they shouldn't be able to see you though ;)

Quoted for ultimate truth; I have no idea how many times I played through that level, loved it everytime. :)

Crysis, in some ways, is the finest example of a double edged sword, the game looks amazing at Very high detail settings, but the cost of that detail is framerate, it basically renders most rigs unuseable at Very High and XHD settings. This is because of multiple reasons, 1) It's a demo 2) There are still some optimisation enhancements that we haven't seen yet and some that can be done later on both the game engine and display driver sides and 3) It wants to be a benchmark for future hardware.

I like Crysis, I like the technology, I like the gameplay, I like the AI, I love the editor, I think that there is a lot of potential behind the engine and said editor. The demo may be a bit linear, but the first levels in most 'open-world' games usually are. I think the naysayers are fully entitled to their opinion and I look forward to the ***OFFICIAL CRYSIS DISCUSSION*** thread.
