Crysis - GOLD

1) This is great news and I'm really looking forward to it.

2) People will moan that their top spec PC will die - but we all knew this and I'd rather Crytek released their current engine than a castrated version just to please the n00bs :p

3) Erm...I'm really looking forward to it :D
Nice post!

A "gold" master disc has been produced and has been sent off for duplication. I remember seeing pics of tiberian suns "gold" masters and they were just regular high quality cd's. But some people will prattle on about how the gold master is an actual disc with a gold covering on one side.

LMAO
I guess its all down to the Dev and the publisher as to how big a deal they want to make out of it.
Perhaps the Crysis Gold discs actually have a nanosuit skin cover?
Okay I will shut up now :p

hmm. i enjoyed Crysis on the hardest setting. it was way too easy otherwise. i kinda like it. it looks amazing i just hope it has a decent story to avoid repitition.

lets have a bet..."what review score will Crysis recieve?"

im going for...88 - 90%

Probably 8.5\10 with gamespot (as is the norm) marking it lower than the rest of the sites for no reason.

I dont want to play it until i upgrade this is old gfx card, i also think its great it needs next gen hardware to get it to its max, quake 3 was the same. When quake 3 first came out you couldnt run that at 1600x1200 full settings on anything never mind 1920x1200!!

Basically it runs fine. People just expect to play todays game with a 1year old video card on ultra settings. Having said that as I played in 1 of about 40threads on crysis I have a GTX and its running the game on Very high and running beautiful, I suspect system set ups maybe vista 64 is to blame I dont know but im happy playing at V high at about 30fps 25ish during gun fights.

This game does play much better than any others though at such low FPS.

Ok I did some bug hunting tonight and came across a few "issues" that Crytek need to fix if they want this game to be realistic in a futuristic sense.

1: The Graphics in very high dx10 mode are not how they were showcased in the gameplay trailers we have seen. I have created a video to prove this.
Evidence
The key differences you can see are how light plays a very important role in their video, rays of light shine through as you'd expect, there is haze and shadows dependant on where the rays hit...none of this exists in the sp demo in dx10 very high and the performance is poor still!

2: I killed a jeep gunman and then set the jeep on fire with the gunman in the jeep laying there...dead. After closer examination after the flames went away the gunman had all his flesh and clothes, he was not burnt...
Evidence

3: I drove a jeep into the water, it was submerged. I shot the petrol tank and the car went up in flames and exploded with flames, you would not get this in reality would you, only an explosion and water going everywhere - perhaps this is asking too much though :p
Evidence
I drove faster so the car was deeper in the water a second time and the same happened again. Flames then boom.

4: I jumped on top of the enemy boat with 2 enemies still on there, the gunman and the driver, I sat there for ages watching them stop...go...stop...go... why did the gunman not shoot me? he was shooting me earlier before I jumped on....
Evidence

5: When you switch your weapon to sleeper bullet mode you can only shoot one at a time after a long reload of the next sleeper bullet, you can cheat this delay by simply quickly switching bullet modes until you get back to sleeper bullet mode.
Evidence

6: I've also noticed all trees take 4 shots in single shot mode to drop regardless of where you shoot them. If Crytek were details enough to put physics and realism into how far the water pressure pushes oil out of a barrel when shot from different heights then this is the simplest thing they missed out...It should take more bullets to drop a tree as you shoot lower on the bark since the tree is thicker lower down.

Hopefully the quad support is better in the full version. Though im gonna assume the sp demo was probably based of the final code so more than likely some sort of patch is in order.

The game is already multi-threaded so why do you think Quad core support will improve or even needs improving?

If it's because of the low utilisation of the CPU overall then that probably won't change until more powerful GPUs hit the market. Crysis is severely GPU limited at the moment. Graphics cards are finding it hard to 'draw' each frame with the level of detail that this game has. The CPU, which is feeding information to the GPU, is pretty much twiddling it's thumbs most of the time waiting for the GPU to get on with it.

In a year or two when we've got Gfx cards capable of pushing this game along at a heady 60fps, at high resolutions and high detail we'll see the CPU utilisation increase as it starts to work harder to feed the hungry GPU.

Hope that all makes sense :)
