My First Overclock - Success?

hey lolage,

don't worry m8, I've got a 2160 @ 3.2Ghz using stock intel heatsink / fan :)

most do 3.0 at stock voltage so just try man, nothing to lose ;)

Its been on now 8.5 hours. looking ok?

What happens now? Do i stop the test?

You need to look at some better cooling, try opening your case and see what your temps are then. If they drop a lot then your case has poor airflow (like mine did).

All i do now is leave side of case off, and have a 12" deskfan on 'low' settings gently moving air into the case....currently running an E6600 @ 3.2Ghz @ 24C idle @ ambient 21C.

Oh btw i also have a thermalright XP120 with a 120mm fan on CPU and arctic silver 5. But tbh the stock cooler was pretty decent too.

I have an akasa zen which is supposed to be alright?

I think il put the speed back to stock and buy a better heatsink. Im confused though because others have got to 3GHz on stock heatsink. Im getting 80c on 2.4?

Like i said test your case cooling first.

Then if thats ok, try re-seating your heatsink on your chip, preferably with some quality heatsink paste.

There are guides on here, and loads on the net to do it if you are unsure.

Okay, my heatsink came with that thermal stuff already on it so il invest in some better paste and a artic cooler heatsink probably..

Good move man. The AC Freezer 7 is probably the best value for money you can buy. You have to spend at least £20 more to get your temps any cooler than with one of them. I've heard they take an average of 20C to 50C off your idle and load temperatures. Bargains imo

EDIT: Apparently the Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro's come with thermal compound pre-applied (their own stuff as well), but it can't help to put a bit more on :)
