The Witcher-Official Thread

Anyone else find playing this game for pretty much a whole day, when it comes to sleeping, reality, dreaming and the Witcher tend to mingle? It sounds strange but I pulled a whole day playing it the other day and when it came to sleeping I kept drifting off, but then realising I wasn't alseep but was 'day dreaming' about doing quests and such? I had to try and force myself to visualise a pure white room so I could try and sleep.

Maybe I'm just weird :S

Runs very smooth on my E6300 and 7900GS. Although i do get knocked down to 20-25 FPS in the swamp (ACT2) - which i wouldnt notice at all if i didnt have FRAPs on.

Hopefully I can get some Witcher on the go tonight. I haven't been able to play it all week. Also, Amazon dispatched my book so I will have something to read later too :)

yay postman just deliverd my copy :D

Installing now:)

Do i just need to install patch 1.1a, or do i need both 1.1 and 1.1a?

Cheers.

My copy arrived today and I had a little blast on it for an hour or so before I head to work.

First impressions are good! I am enjoying the game so far and from what I have read, the beginning of the game is quite dull compared to Act 2 onwards so I am looking forward to progressing more. The story is quite gripping and makes me want to carry on, which is good.

The control system takes a little while to get into, I am using the OTS view and I managed to get the hang of it fairly quickly and its pretty easy to use. One main gripe with the control system is that it can be a little difficult to navigate through tight places like doors and stairways but its not that bad.

Combat is ok, if a little tedious with the clicking, but I would imagine this will get a lot better later on in the game when you have more spells and abilities to use. I am a little confused about the whole ability thing and not really sure where to use my bronze points so I am going to have a good read through the manual before I place them.

I received The Orange Box today too so I think I will play that before I carry on with The Witcher as it shouldn't take too long to complete.

Read a lot about nice graphics, but mine seem pixelated like its running at the wrong res and a bit blury. I set it correct in the options

What an awesome game!!! However, I am struggling with one bit-if anyone could help that would be great!

***SPOILER*** (highlight to reveal)

I have just reached the Crypt, where I have to kill the monsters to help out that soldier (cant remember his name!) How do I find a torch or something else to light the corridors with?

Just been reading this - real shame that it's third person :(

Might send mine back when it arrives then - really looking forward to it too but I just don't like third person games - kills the immersion IMO

I get that during cutscenes too, it bugs me. Upping the AA seems to get rid of it.

There's lots of things I can find fault with in this game, or any other game, but you can't have everything you want and this game seriously blows any other recent game out of the water in terms of story/immersion IMO.

Send it back when you get it, but you'll be missing out. It also might not do any harm to research games a bit in future before you buy them, eh? :p

I cant believe you would send it back simply as its in 3rd person
Everyone loves it, give it a chance :p

lol yeah :p

Just fancied an RPG so I looked on Metacritic then bought it!

I probably will give it a go just I've never been keen on third person games, particuarly RPGs

right i just completed act 1 hehehe. I love the dialogue in this game.. Geralt sounds a bit like Clint eastwood in unforgiven..

spoiler end act 1 (highlight to reveal)

Ok im thinking my decision to save the witch might come back to bite me later because i had to kill a ton of villagers - and they cant all be evil lol, i think its probable that she bewitched them in some way! I mean to say that the beast just appeared because of the evil deeds that were done is hrmm a bit dodgy i think she is behind it. But nevermind she was a very very easy lay :D LOL. In any case im sure ill find out later in the game. I'm in the sewers in act 2 wandering around with no gear and most of my money gone. I better get that money back! Great Game!

How do you kill the bug creature at the start?

this is for the prologue yeah?

see spoiler below.(highlight to see it more clearly)

You need to use the Aard sign(right click) on the bells in the courtyard. I think there is 3 total - it doesnt like sound you see and the sound sort of stuns it. So you basically run around the beast activating each bell and then run in for the kill with sword

Was playing last night and i have a question, maybe a bit of a spoiler so beware

In chapter/act1? i had escorted the tavern wench back to her grandmas and she said meet her at sunset for a bit of rumpy pumpy, but since it was during the day i went to odos, drunk a lot and by the time i left and killed the 2 weeds it was pitch black so well past sunset, does that matter and can i go anytime at sunset?
