Mac mini to 30''

Ive finally decided to get the top spec mac mini.


My main monitors a Dell 30'' which uses dual link....do you think the mini will be able to run this monitor Ok?

Does the mini support dual link at all?

I know know apple do there cinema display which i would have thought would b compatible:confused:

Any ideas guys if this is possible...it runs at 2560 x 1600.

yeah just had a quick look on there and its says N/A compatibility with the Mini...Hmmm thats a shame

what about a macbook

do you think that'll be the same....i really want to run it off a 30'' if possible.
 
Check the specs to see if it lists dual link DVI, if not then it wont, check the MacPro/Macbook Pro to see if it lists it there, as those should have dual link.

Since the Mac Mini and the Macbook have essentially the same guts, I suspect the same is true. You'd have to move to a machine with discrete graphics like the iMac, Macbook Pro, or Mac Pro.

Yeah was hoping to get a mini or macbook.....Unsure on whether to wait now for the new macbook to see if that supports it.

im pretty sure that the new x3100 (assuming its in the upcoming macbook update) will have dual link dvi and thus would be able to run the 30" - though i may be wrong
 
what sorta price do you think the new macbooks will be do you think?

do you thin it will be the same price as the current macbook?

The macbook has been updated on the US site. Sadly no dual link DVI.

To be honest, although its a lot better than the 950 this is a entry level chipset, i didn't expect features of a full fledged graphics card.

Ahh thats a shame.

Ive now changed my mind now ...I was going to get a mini...but ive now decided to go for the basic macbook or basic imac.


if i was to get the macbook id probably only very few times use it as a lappy and mostly use it connected to my second 24'':(


So what would you guys do....get a Mac mini / macbook / or newer imac

Id get the top sepc mini but would have to be basic spec on the other too.


is the imac worth the extra £100 do you think over the macbook.

Id say 80% of the time id use the macbook as a desktop.

Also being my first ever mac....would a mini be suitable saving a few ££££'s

What do you think guys.....really undecided on what to get.
 
You could always just run the 30" at 1920x1200?

Maybe?

Having said that I don't know if the connection would work or if it would look dodgy...

Dont think that would work fella...as it uses a dual link connection which is different from a standard DVI.
 
I'd get the MacBook. Although you're not going to go wrong with any of them to be honest, they all have their plusses and drawbacks.
