DeLorean set for limited production run...

It was a terrible car in almost every way. It broke a lot, it was slow, heavy, handled crap and was just a nightmare to own.

I still want one though, I want it hard. However, if I were ever in a position to be able to buy one (and I doubt I ever will be) it would have to be one of the originals which was screwed together in Dunmurry.

Can't they built it again but using some new tech and modern interiors? It would be a nightmare to own by anyone's standard.

I'd rather they kept the interiors the same. What they need to sort out are the electrics and that engine. The engine was a joke, 170bhp. The American versions were only putting out about 130bhp after all the emissions bullcrap was fitted.

With a decent engine and a few tweaks to the suspension, it could be made bareable :)

The DeLorean wasn't rubbish as such, it was just not what it should have been. John DeLorean's concept was the "ethical supercar" which would never rust away, hence the stainless body. Problem was, the original concept wasn't really designed with this in mind, so when it came down to the final stages the huge weight of the stainless cladding over an already heavy monocoque caused problems. That's where Lotus came in and basically redesigned it from the inside out by using a backbone chassis like you get on the Esprit.

Problem was, with all this re-engineering they were just trying to correct a big mistake and it didn't really gel. Then they gave it an underwhelming engine and just to finish it off, big ugly US spec bumpers on the exported cars spoiled the clean lines, and it was pretty much doomed after a history like that. They weren't well built either, quality control was apparently shocking at the factory in Ireland.

Has anyone seen the original Guigario concepts for the DMC 12? They're lovely.

A relative of my mums has got one of these (original ones of course), i'm 6"4 & dont fit properly inside :(

That's strange, John DeLorean was also 6' 4" and one of the specific design criteria was that someone of his stature had to be able to fit inside comfortably.
