why do so many people insist on spelling 'lose' as 'loose'?

Example: He is losing the plot <-- correct

The point I was trying to make is people take spelling etc far too seriously and try and impose their own level of intelligence onto other people, then become aggrevated when it obviously doesn't work.

Spelling/grammar is something that I've always been OK with.

I never seem to forget when to use they're/there/their, it's/its etc. To be honest I don't really understand how anyone could not use 'em correctly, it's common sense...

I have a friend who continually writes 'honist' instead of honest, it really annoys me.

I know that my English grammar and spelling can sometimes be off but I try to always do things correctly.

Scott Mills saying 'off of' ARRRRRRGGGGGGHH it drives me mad. I want to punch him for the proliferation of terrible grammar within the 'youth' of this country.

My Dad received a letter from my school many years ago, which he duly return with all the spelling and grammar mistakes highlighted
