is my cpu bottlenecking my 2900? or something else?

I've never actually used or even seen a 3rd party BIOS for a motherboard but I was just listing the only time that a BIOS update could be classed as CID.

When you get the board back I'd maybe start and learning to overclock manually as in memory speed, timings and voltages. It's much easier this way (I find) as I don't always trust the motherboard. I would however trust a motherboards settings if I had worked out a good overclock and the auto function put it to the same settings or really close to what I found stable.

the asus m2r32-mvp is a great overclocker on auto setting , it does the vcore perfectly. just up the fsb then it automaticly up's the vcore to what it needs.. also on the memory..

Auto volts with overclcoking is a big no for me, always go with manual volts and test them thoroughly.

would beta from asus site be 3rd party ?

Hmmm, if in the BETA's information (read me file) it stated that using that BIOS would remove you from the warranty terms then maybe?. Just install a proper BIOS again. I'm not sure if they'd be able to tell.

As for your board being a great overclocking board. I don't doubt that for a second but even so, I'd still be checking it manually. All you do is stick the settings at what your motherboard stuck them at and then do a stress test to see if all is stable. If having a stable system is what your after then I don't think doing this is much of a hassle for peace of mind.

there's no read-me files in any of the asus bios updates. and all it says on the site is "note, BIOS update is only recommended when experiencing technical difficulties with your system, And is not recommended to be performed regularly.

Moreover, due to the nature of BIOS update, there is certain level of dangers involved. BIOS update must be performed with extreme caution . During BIOS update process, your system must be maintained without interference or power loss to prevent unexpected damage.

In case of BIOS update failure, please follow instructions in your User's Manual for guidelines on BIOS recovery via CrashFree BIOS. In the event that BIOS recovery is not recoverable via CrashFree BIOS, please contact your place of purchase for further assistance on BIOS recovery."

BIOS seems fine then Gareth.

I know you have great faith in your motherboards auto features but a decent stress test would ensure that it's stable. All you need to do is start it before you go to bed and if it passes then it's stable and if it doesn't then it's not. That's it and all done whilst you sleep. It's not like you have to sit and watch it lol. A bit like using a washing machine as a TV :D.

my cpu was bottlenecking my 2900. now i have my new MSI K9A2 Platinum i can overclock my cpu. i clocked it to 3.4ghz (3405 MHz) but i think it do a lot more because the temp was only at 41c underload on air... heres my 3dmark06 results... im guessing maybe it's still bottlenecking abit..

i must say this motherboard is great!!! and i would recommand to anyone.. its easy to overclock the cpu, memory, timings because it can be done from within windows , no need to go in to the bios to do it
