Spec me some brake pads

You sure they have been replaced? M1144's are more expencive than Xtreme's. I think they are carrying on the M1144 from what I have heard.

Hopefully I will have my M1144's on soon so will see the difference.

I thought xtreme were a different type altogether too.

They do 1144, 1155, 1166, 1177 and 1188 compounds still I'm sure.

Am I right in thinking performance pads tend to squeek/squeal? I always notice this on cars geared up for tracks or heavily modified brake systems?

Pads designed for high temperature use have a higher metal (copper?) content in them so obviously are going to squeel more than standard jobbies. My full race wilwood pads squeel like hell and when the wheels are covered in brake dust you can see loads of little metallic bits in the dust.

Dust off the standard pads is insane though, lots of dust + cold winter + polished dish = fail

You cant have good stopping performance without a lot of dust though.

Only problem with the Mintex Extreme pads... they squeal like a piggy! Great pads, but tbh Fox if you're looking for less dust I wouldn't recommend these, I think they give the same amount as OEM and other pads (perhaps slightly more).

Perhaps Ferrodo or Pagid. What about Kevlar pads, do they give less dust?

They should have come with shims for the back of the pad to stop squealing. Chances are they weren't with the pads in the box, give TMD friction(they make Mintex products as well as others) a ring and they will send some out to you.

Fox you can get wheel wax which you apply after the wheels have been cleaned and claybarred, it makes them really easy to clean when you wash the car. Doesnt stop them getting dirty in the first place though.

Hi mate, aye they did have the shims. :( I think it was just my pad/disc combo which makes them squeal. Both of my cars I had (before the new one) ran Bembo Max discs and extreme pads... both had identical problem with the squealing. I must say, it was only with light braking. When braking firmly they were awesome. So I think perhaps the compound just didn't agree or something. :)

Another vote Greenstuffs here. Decent from cold, very good when warm and not as much dust as OE pads. Not sure how good they are on larger cars though.

mine don't squeal at all with the shims on :s

Your not going to get no dust, no noise and great brakes.

Sounds like Greenstuff are ideal if you don't hoon it everywhere

M1144s are only available as old stock now. The Mintex C-tech range has been replaces by the Xtreme range now and its a lot smaller range too.

Your probably better with standard pads Fox theres no such thing as low dust with good braking.

Oh damn. :( I bet they won't do the Dolomite in Xtreme too. Hmm, shall I buy a 2nd set now...

Evo magazine tested dozens of brake pads in the latest issue.

Lidl OMG extra value pads came out tops in every category, closely followed by Matalan BS1 road pads.

You know what to do. ;)

I can highly recommend Hawk performance ceramic pads.
They are the best thing since sliced bread, virtually no dust, no noise, instant grip from cold and they last longer and feel better than ANY other brake pad I have ever seen.
Check here for more details, English distributor is here.

May have to try these out on my car if they have any that fit!
Name threw me a bit though "Oh Cambridge that's not too bad....oh they're based in Letchworth? Even nearer, score!"

P.S. I wanna have a visit to Millbrook one day, I only live in Ampthill, I'll take you waterskiing round Stewartby Lake :p
