OK, I have a couple of tats already (some Kanji on my right forearm [the wife's name], and a tribal on my upper arm), but I'm seriously considering a full sleeve on my left arm. Something like this, it's just awesome IMO:

Now I know we are talking multiple session and a large amount of hours, but what sort of cost are we talking about?

EDIT: Before anyone says OMG IT'LL LOOK HORRIBLE WHEN YOU ARE OLDER!!!!one, DON'T MUTILATE YOURSELF!!11onetwo, please don't bother, I'm not interested in your opinions :)

Depends where you go, A mate has a full tribal sleeve, goes up his arm and covers his shoulder, think iirc it cost him about £230 and it took 4 sessions. Looks awesome.

I have another mate, has half a sleeve done by his uncle, cost £30, done in one session and it looks carp.

I'd love to have a full sleeve tattoo too, Im just too much of a wuss :(

Ring about, price it up!

Would you be getting colours or just keeping black?

My mate had just a shoulder/upper arm cover and that cost him about £300, it was just black and Red, and that was a 3 session job IIRC.

I'd love a sleeve, but I can't afford one at the moment, and I'm also just about to start the process to get one removed off my neck(not that I want to mind, but needs must :()

Depends on artist and studio. Little things like studio location can have a huge effect on hourly prices (rent costs et cetera)...

Realistically, anywhere between £400 and £900, I'd say...

I'd guess at at least 12 hours for something like that. At least. It's best to get chatting to a couple of local artists and see what you think of them, give them an idea of what you'll be after, and they should be able to give you a rough idea of what you're looking at, but in my experience it's hard to estimate how long it will take. If you can find an artist you can book for a morning/evening or a whole day, it will work out cheaper. That's what I tend to do with the guy who does mine, I go in at sixish and he works into the evening. Works out much cheaper :)

I'm planning on doing the same, only it will be my right arm, and a yakuza-style Japanese dragon design. The only problem is I want to get it done in Japan, so it will have to wait until I can afford it.

OK, an update. After looking at various flash and mags for inspiration, and chatting to my artist, I decided on the Koi theme, similar to this:

http://www.tattoos-by-design.co.uk/rate_my_tattoo/tattoos/viewtatoo.asp?ID=4926

First session was spent going through some designs, and getting the top half of my arm outlined, 2 hours total:

Really happy so far, the fish and large flower were traced from flash, but everything else is pretty much freehand. Hurt like hell on the underside of my arm (large flower, last pic) but it's going to be worth it.

I have another 2 hours booked for next week, still undecided where I'm going with the bottom half, I was going to go with another Koi but may go for a dragon of some sort, something like this would fit in with the theme nicely.

I would hope that Koi have some kind of significance for you, should look nice when it's coloured. Myself I could never have a sleeve. I have tattoos but I think you can overdo things.
Hope it works out how you want it :)

Looking good so far :), that sleeve in the op look the dogs, should look great if it turns out like that.

This tattoo looks ace:

Would probs look real good if the same pattern extended down the biceps, like:

I like the tribal stuff, looks ace.

Looking good, are you going for a shaded look like the first sleeve you posted or a full colour one like the second example?

I'd still like a tribal half sleeve on my left arm (inverted shading, opposite to my right arm) but its finding a design that fits in with the band I already have.

I have something very similar to that on my right arm, but not quite as big.

It is going to be colour, but I'll be keeping the colours fairly dark and subdued.

I have always wanted a tattoo but i am really **** scared of needles (i know i'm a wuss)

As GSXR said, it isn't too bad. The outlining is actually the worst part, I find the filling in quite relaxing and enjoyable TBH. Depends where on your body you are having it done aswell, the less flesh there is the more it hurts.
