*Gears Of War* Thread :o) Game Pics & Performance.

reason i say this about texture rez is that my cousin rang me up saying this game is stuttering on his x1950pro 512mb at max settings at a rez of 1280x960. general fps is high but it stutters when moving around. i told him to lower the texture resolution to medium for testing he did that then started a game, the stuttering was still there.

but he noticed that the texture quality was just the same when he went from very high to medium. i told him to exit the game then run the game again since the setting may not have taken effect. he exited the game to windows, then ran the game again, and started a new level, he noticed instantly the texture quality was reduced, at the same time the stuttering has completley gone.

going by that its a texture size issue from the sounds of it. other people may have just changed the setting but not exited the game to windows desktop then run the game again, cuz if you don;t do that it seems the changes don;t take effect.

Same happenes to me in UT3, allthough this is in Vista, trying that virtual memory hotfix or something to see if that helps.
 
i could nearly sware the was a crosshair on screen on the 360 but it seems to be missing for me. Also when i 1st started the game it look crap, everything was set to low. i had to go in and up everything to Medium and it still doesnt look like the 360

Well after reading all these posts regarding the stuttering problem i am in two minds about getting this now. May go for cod4 instead, but that too stutters, that i noticed in the demo.
So how bad is it?
 
Well as a PC kB/mouse person but due to back problem had to buy a 360 to play laid down on couch, got to say I wasted £30 buying this on the 360 . Its awful. I hate controllers. I dont feel immersed in the game due to the controller. I will defo buy this on the PC i bet it will be great.

I am not knocking the 360 version but after being PC gamer with the kb/mouse i am guessing it will be more emmersive.On the controller I dont enjoy it all all due to not being able to aim and feel as if im fighting the controls all the time.

I really hope this sells well on the pc as we need developers to consider the PC a viable platform to develope for and not just as a way to port games to make more money without wanting to make it as good as they can which looks like they have with GOW

I admit to downloading it, but only because I have already ordered it, along with UT3 ;)

btw, there is a crosshair when you aim, you can see it in the pic above this post. if you dont see it then I would imagine you have graphics problems.

Oh my god, very few games leave me speachless but the difference between the xbox and the pc versions is really insane
It looks very pretty indeed
The game is a very nice port, the controls are not sluggish.

1280x1024 (im sure i could go higher tho) all sliders maxed, nothing changed in control panel so still room for boost

Well after the re-format I got mine working and its running fine apart from the stuttering. I'll post some pics tonight since you guys are desperate :)
 
Installed and working last night - it looks magic and plays so much better than the XBOX 360 version. FPS are just made for mouse and KB. Going to start playing through in Co-Op with a mate tonight.
 
To anyone who thinks the controls won't be as good as the 360 - they are. They feel damn good! It's smooth (apart from the odd stutter). Oh and I'm not buying into the texture thing (causing the stutter) as it can happen any time - intensive or not.
