Drake's Fortune demo on PAL PS3s

Played through the demo in full now, I really hope the game doesn't focus on the shooting as it is rather poor. Hit detection and damage being two of the main areas for concern. It's quite possible to shoot someone in the chest and he'll keep running as if you've just squirted him with a water pistol.

I've been following the game for a while now so I'm aware earlier builds had these problems (the E3 build in particular). I'm also aware that there is a more recent build with these problems fixed, so the demo is either the earlier build, or worse, it is the newer supposedly fixed build.

I think the game will be decent, but the demo shows little more than 'move through area, kill baddies' repeat.

Played the demo, thought it was excellent, shooting was good, i personally didn't find it poor at all, great fun, a quick 1 hit kill to the head or 3 shots/bursts to the body takes em down fairly easily. The AI hides and runs for cover and try's to out flank you. The game looks great and seems it'll be very well story driven, no slowdown or screen tearing that i noticed. Twenty mins was all to short, lol, want to play the whole thing now!, thats what demo's are supposed to do i suppose.

This was Sony's fault.. and I'm glad they've listened.. they are ultimately responsible for what goes on the PSN Store..

I expect Sony to be challenging MS and surpassing them to give the PS3 the credibility it deserves..

What I mean is that MS certify their demo's, they 'control' them, and as a consumer, this seems to work very well, all demo's 'work' out the box, and are generally released to the US/Europe at the same time..

So far the whole PS Store/Demo thing feels a bit rough, I've got 2 demo's that have crashed and rebooted my PS3, and I've had to create 3 accounts in different countries just to ensure I have some demo's in a timely manner..

Saying all that, I saw Gamer.TV on the weekend, 30 mins of Drakes Fortune goodness, it really looks a brilliant game, I've got builders in knocking a wall down this w/e so I won't get chance to have a go, but it's one defo buy on the PS3...

Why should they? It's on the US store, they shouldn't have to mention jack about the EU version.
I bet that's their attitude as well, which is just plain wrong.. no wonder the PS3 software is so rough around the edges when people think putting up stuff that doesn't work is acceptable..

I have to disagree - the fact that they fixed the demo so that it is region free rather than just leaving it suggests that Sony are quite open to people connecting to different regions stores and that they aren't trying to regulate it!

I dont see any issue with Sony doing what ever they wish in THEIR stores- if they wish to lock down a region, or not allow other machines to connect or have working demos then why not?

Why not think of all the demos that you had previously from "other" stores as gifts, rather than a right!!!

just described most fps or action games in existence.... bioshock...move through area kill baddies go next area do same....

This was an oversight on Naughty Dog's part, and they and Sony have shifted their butts to fix this already. They get two thumbs up from me, seeing as quick action like this is extremely rare. Sony could have easily stuck to the 'US ONLY!' stance (which you know MS and Nintendo would do), but they didn't.

I agree, in a strange way not only have they fixed the problem, but they are acknowledging they know people download from other stores, and seemingly have no problem with it.

Thumbs up from me, for now.

Purchase confirmed for me anyway, really like the feel of the game, little touches like the wading through the water seems really well done, thumbs up.

I liked the demo a lot and enjoyed it thoroughly.

Just one gripe, i didn't like the copious amounts of enemies coming into the areas all the time. I would think "Great, that's done" then a swarm of enemies come in from jumping down the rocks.

The water effects on the guys clothing is excellent!

Just had a quick go before my nephew kicked me off to play Lego Starwars again.

The effects are great, love the motion sensor controls when walking across the logs, and love the little effects like when you get wet your clothes actually look wet.

Has anyone found out how to invert the look up\down? I struggle without that :p

Pleased to see that they have sorted this out. Currently downloading it now, albeit taking some time. Sounds like a decent game from reading some of the posts on the forum.

I have to disagree with that, the fact any european can connect to the store and download freely means that they have to 'cater' for this correctly...

It's not a biggie, but I write software for a living, some of it is free support software for large OEM customers to use, and we go to great lengths to make sure that every angle is covered so that no-one has a bad experience.. it's a pet hate of mine when people just write stuff to work when you do the right thing, but fall over if you do something slightly wrong.. at the end of the day, it's only my personal opinion!

absolutely, ignoring the minor conversation on the issue, the fact they did something so quick is a very very good thing..

Here's the Playstation Blog statement on the demo fix.

http://blog.us.playstation.com/2007/11/09/uncharted-drake’s-fortune-demo-back-on-the-world-map/
Christophe Balestra, here, and I’m Co-President at Naughty Dog. I wanted to give a final update on the Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune demo situation.

We’re really sorry about what happened and didn’t anticipate this at all. We just didn’t know people from other territories could connect to the US PLAYSTATION Network Store and download demos … now we do! We’ve been too busy working on the game to wrap our head’s around the infrastructure of the PSN.

We absolutely did not plan the demo to be region locked. As soon as we figured out the problem existed, Sam Thompson called me and I jumped into my car, drove to the office and fixed it right away. It’s an honest mistake and we didn’t try to prevent anybody from enjoying the Uncharted demo. I feel even more sorry because most of the people who experienced the problem are in Europe and I’m European myself.

So again, we’re really sorry about what happened and it wasn’t done on purpose. The good news is it’s now fixed and a new demo of Uncharted has been posted to the US PLAYSTATION Network Store so the entire world can enjoy it.

Thanks to Sam for taking the heat yesterday and for letting us know about the issue.

Well thanks to naughty Dog for fixing *** demo - it's awesome, and i can certainly understand *** comparisons in graphics between this and crysis for graphics, some of the best graphics i have ever seen.

Can't wait for this to be released!

Can't really say anything bad towards that response, fast action and totally sincere. Well done to the guy and Naughty Dog.

Absolutely, totally agree.

However, it's a bit different to the guy who posted on the us playstation blog (Sam Miller iirc, some Naughty Dog marketing suit) who said (paraphrasing now) "the demo is for the US market and is made that way, which is the case for all demos". It was basically saying it's for US, no-one else should be downloading it, and all regional demos are this way.

I have to paraphrase, as after he was called out on his bs the original post was edited!

Absolutely top class, the demo is great and the speedy fix is really commendable, well done Sony/Naughy Dog.
