F1 2007/2008 Winter Testing and Rumours

According to the Spyker/Force India site it's an interim scheme which I suppose is either good news (the real one will be better) or more likely bad (the real one will be worse).

Who's idea was burgundy? That's possibly the slowest colour out there, it's what old men's cars are painted so you know they'll be slow....

I feel that Honda will now need a top notch driver and Brawn will know this. I dont feel Button has the ability to deliver, hence, they will need to shop around. Perhaps they will give Button 2yrs to make it as their No.1 driver, after which they will look elsewhere. Perhaps they might even look towards Alonso and give Barrichello the boot?

Do you people not find it strange that someone of Alonso's standing/callibre still has not confirmed a drive for 2008? I dont think this has ever happened.
I don't see them keeping Barrichello for 2009.

It's not exactly inspiring I agree. While we're on the subject of F1's latest flop to be, I'll also retract my earlier slating of the Force India name. I now realise that Spyker wasn't exactly the most inspiring of team names either. :D

I'm somewhat surprised they hired him on such a long contract in the first place. I suppose Rubens must provide some good testing input, but on the track he's always been a bit 'meh'.

Anyway, here's hoping that Ross Brawn can whip the Honda mob in to some sort of order and make them perform respectably for '08. The only way is up! ;)

Nope, Alonso is destroyed. Lots of the grid will have closed off to him now. Many people will not have been happy with the way he dealt with macca. He also made such a big thing of being an undisputed no1 he will be seen as more trouble than he's worth. He's now a gamble.

Alonso has shattered his reputation this year.

I disagree on that point.

Over the past few years, the only guys to win the world title are those who have had No1 status. Hence, there is no arguing or infighting within the team. The lions share of the points can be funnelled into one driver and this aids in winning the title. The only guy to have won the title with equal status recently was Raikkonen this year, and that was due to the fact that Alonso wasnt given No1 status - if he was, he wouldve scored an extra 2 pts and won the title.

Giving a driver No1 status helps immensely and most teams in the modern era will have seen this and will have this strategy in place.

In 2008, Ferrari will most definitely have Raikonnen as No1 and wherever Alonso goes in 2008, he will have No1 status. McLaren are one of the few teams who have traditionally allowed their drivers to race eachother, right to the end. All the teams who have won world titles during the last few years (Williams, Ferrari, Benetton, Renault), bar McLaren have ended up either backing one driver from the start or at some point during the season (Ferrari did this in the last few races of 2007, once it was established that Raikonnen had superior race pace).

Having a No1 driver, has now become essential.

Well it could have been worse I suppose, I'm still not a fan of burgundy mind.

I didn't before, but now Brawn has joined the Honda mothership I think Barrichello's pretty safe for this year as they have a partnership from their Ferrari days.

I actually quite like the Force India scheme, been too long since we had a predominantly white car on the grid, mentioning no names.... Mr Fuller :)

I was originally expecting some garish combination of orange, green and white - although if the current really is an interim scheme, i think this is still a heavy possibility.

2006 Honda??? ;)

If they keep Etihad as a major sponsor then the colours will remain fairly similar to what they have now. Will be interesting to see if Kingfisher jump from Toyota though.

exactly why i added Mr Fuller at the end

Fuller's 19 Entertainment was the first company to successfully persuade a Formula 1 racing car to promote the environment link title. His "Earth Car" created for Honda Racing F1 was competitive throughout the 2007 Formula 1 season driven by British driver Jenson Button and Brazilian Rubens Barrichello.
;)

I presume the cars are now running without traction control?

Looking at those times, I can see that the Renault isnt too far behind the McLaren. Now, if Alonso takes the Renault, we can expect him to make up some time over Kovaleinen and bridge the gap. The problem was that Hamilton wasnt at the test, but we can expect him to be about 0.3s faster than PDLR, but that still isnt enough to bridge the gap to the Ferraris.

Hondas are clearly off the pace and Brawn has a lot of work to do there.

Both Ferraris seem to be the class of the field. Lets hope that there will be a battle for the title in 2008 and not a whitewash by Raikkonen. We really need Alonso at Renault quickly so that at least the championship will be mildly competitive, otherwise Ferrari will be able to pick which driver wins the title.

There is a lot of testing and modifactions to come, so these times are merely indicative of what might happen once the new cars are released in 2008. There is still everything to play for.

I don't like M. Schumacher. He comes across like a smug git who will do anything to win, even cheat. But credit due - jumps right back into the mix after a longish layoff.

I think next season will be a good one - they just need to keep reducing aerodynamics - bring back slicks :D Hope Alonso is in a poor car.

I think next season will be a white wash for Ferrari. Unless you are a big Ferrari or Raikkonen fan, it wont be fun.
