CPU Q6600 @ 3.6GHz (1.45v aircooled)
Abit IP35 Pro (MSI X38 was poor and then died :( )
RAM @ 1000MHz (Nothing special here)
HD 3870 (860MHz / 2600MHz)

For the price the performance is good, they seem to scale very well with CPU clock speed and overclocking on the cards themselves..
so nothing special then because u had to overclock the card to get to that score...im more interested in stock clocks. conpairing a 3870 at stock with a 2900xt at stock and a 8800gt at stock..

So which is better between the HIS & Sapphire as they are priced the same and is there any point going for a 512mb on a 19" WS monitor?

Hope they are quiet.

Hi there

I am trying to fit this in with the other 101 things I have to do. So no comparing against other cards I am afraid. Stock wise it was around 12,500 in 3D Mark 06 from a single HD 3870.

less posting please, more benching...THEN more posting :D

I really dont think there is any point in replacing ** 8800GTS 320MB you wouldnt see much gain for it unless you got 2 :p

Okay my overclocked ultra barely manages 12,200 3D marks but then I am using a Core 2 Duo at 3.3. I think the Q6600 running at 3.6 is going to more than make up for that difference but it's not bad considering the difference in price.

I am sorely tempted by 2 3870's I have to say especially as I love high resolutions with AA and AF.

How so?

A lot of people have upgraded their 8800GTS to GT because there's a good gain. By the sounds of things a 3870 will match a GT but has higher overclocking potential, not only that but it runs cooler and quieter using less power... oh and not to mention cheaper too!

I would love to see Loadsa and Raven's proof. They've been posting this all week - if you two know something, please, enlighten the rest of us.

I know i'd appreciate it, it's either going to be an 8800GT or 3870XT for me.

Had any time to do the crysis bench marks gibbo? were all waiting :D

Hi there

Yes not done them all yet but these are what I can remember.

1680x1050, everything on HIGH, NO AA = 25.xxfps with a single HD3870 at stock.
1680x1050, everything on HIGH, NO AA = 27xxfps with single HD3870 at 825/2500MHz

Enabling 4xx dropped those scores, but I can't remember the figures as they are all written down at work.

Not sure how it compares and remember this is using early drivers and the demo of farcry single player. I also had the ATI drivers set to balanced, which is default.

Can I just say I suck when it comes to testing games, so take my results with a pinch of salt and wait for proper reviews to come out. What I can say the HD 3870 at stock is not a bad card, but it does seem to respond very well to overclocking.

I shall post all the results up tomorrow or Thursday.
