Thing is, though, the 3850 has already gone down in price. I put it in my basket yesterday, it was £123, it's now £117. While it isn't displayed, the current price is still displayed to me through my basket somehow. Not sure why.

Hi there

Yes we had words with ATI on the 3850 needs to be sub £100 and they agreed to support that and as such Sapphire and HIS will now be sub £100 plus VAT. :)

For those interested, single 3870 nearly 14k in 3D Mark 06 and a pair in Crossfire nearly 19k. 3x or more is well beyond 20k. :)

so theyve gone down by a considerable amount so i guess we know whos the winner (8800gt) but if its not much then i think ill have one of these next week.

Thanks. Confirming that made my day. :D

In my own personal little world, far away from value haters, that product is good value even when put up against the 8800 GT and 3870.

What cpu and speed?

Is that stock?

CPU Q6600 @ 3.6GHz (1.45v aircooled)
Abit IP35 Pro (MSI X38 was poor and then died :( )
RAM @ 1000MHz (Nothing special here)
HD 3870 (860MHz / 2600MHz)

For the price the performance is good, they seem to scale very well with CPU clock speed and overclocking on the cards themselves.

In a couple of weeks the HD3870's will no doubt be about £20 cheaper too as supply frees up which will make them in the £119.99+VAT region and the HD3850's will drop to around £89.99+VAT. So if anyone wants to save money then wait 2-3 weeks, if you want one now then price is higher due to limited supply.

Wonder if it was a case of 'Hi AMD Gibbo here, your really gona have to drop the prices on these 3850's, as the 256mb GT's obliterate em as they the same as the 512mb GT, and they are the same price'. :p

Hi there

AMD are not worried about a product that is not available. ;)

Plus even at older price it was still cheaper than 8800 GT 256MB, whilst AMD have stock they are going to clean up.

We've got 500+ HD 3870's now for launch day and over 250 of the 3850's, needless to say AMD have got this product launch spot on.

what a place to be in at moment :rolleyes:going to buy new graph card next week so do i hold on wait for a gt to appear or save some cash and bag a ati for now cause i need to play the new games that are out now or in next week.
