The Official Assassin's Creed Thread

AI is a lot reminiscent of Heavenly Sword's as well, where they all just stand around you, and take it in turns to take a single unenthusiastic swipe

ehh?

not to pick a fight or anything :D

but i guess i had a special copy of HS where the AI on numerous occasions did their best to all hit me at the same time. (basically by surrounding me and they all take pot shots at me)

Thats what i liked about it..so i guess i was lucky then..

Aaaand Assasin's Creed bombs ! http://www.eurogamer.net/article.php?article_id=87432&page=3

7/10 by Eurogamer.

Cancelled preorder and lost all faith in Ubisoft. I've just read that the AI is a lot reminiscent of Heavenly Sword's as well, where they all just stand around you, and take it in turns to take a single unenthusiastic swipe. Followed by invisible walls everywhere, and a hefty dose of linearity. Sounds like a pretty misleading buildup to the game from Ubisoft if you ask me to be honest.

6.7/10. Ooooh, burn.

Despite the average score there, i'll still get it.

What I've concluded from reading so far, even from reviews that gave it 10/10. They all share these similarities

1 - It's repetitive - spy, climb to high points, pick pocket, assassinate.
2 - Controls system - Not expected to jump when you are used to playing other games
3 - AI

Different reviewer seems to think these are either big negatives or just minor niggles. Even the ones that gave it 10/10 overlook it as minor where some says it's a major flaw.

Personally.

1 - Most games are repetitive no? Football, you score that goal...only difference is difficulty. Halo, you just shoot stuff, Zelda, open chest, find key, kill boss. Yet all these games are fun, it's very subjective really.

2 - They all pick on the controls and seemingly says it's bad but to be fair they all say the game is better for it - being more fluid, players will get used to it very quickly and can pull off stunning maneuvers...etc. So I don't understand why they started talking about it in a negative way to start with, just imagine you had to press X or A every time you approach a ledge, or want to climb a bit higher while running away from the guards who are as agile as you are. They'll catch you up in no time, what do you do then? make the Guards even more stupid and useless by can't climb as well? I welcome the freerunning controls, it'll be different at least.

3 - The combat system of this game also been scrutinized (from what i've read, gamestrailer, but i am not on BB so haven't seen it so can't comment, and going to take you guy's words on it). I suppose this will add to the repetitiveness of the game, but imagine if it's slash and kill kind of combat. I imagine it will be repetitive too, I'd get bored shooting at civilians in GTA after 10 mins. And if it IS like GTA then frankly there would be Zero AI, you just slash and dash. If you can freely slash 10 peoples that attacks you rather than lock one one at the same time then it'll be like Ninety Nine Nights too will it not?

Anyhow, I've not played it yet, been waiting so long for this now I am just going to have to try it for myself and see. Worst comes to worst, this game has some serious eye candy :P

I might not buy it till i see it cheap tbh. Got mass effect on monday anyway, right?
I'm getting deja vu. I'm sure I've told you in other threads it's out on the 23rd. :p

just watched the video review, what's with the weird white grid line things ???
Either wait until the start of the game to find out, or read a spoiler-ific review.

These big open worlds, which are fully interactive, do come at a severe cost on PS3. There is considerable texture pop-in and noticeable framerate issues. Playing back-to-back with the 360 version, it's obvious that Ubisoft did not devote enough resources to the PS3 edition.

UbiSoft = Fail!

Deffinately renting this one.

Some people like to find out in game, though I suppose if you come into a game thread, you're kind letting yourself in for it regardless.
I meant Ubisoft blowing the twist themselves rather than in any particular thread. If it's the twist I'm thinking of, it has been evident in many video's over the past few months, not to mention one of the voice actors giving it away in an interview some time ago.

now thats great, my thoughts exactly, every game follows a formula, and can become repetative ,Oblivion is a prime example for me, clonk beastie , ghostie over head, rinse repeat.

I think even though I have my doubts about this game, I will buy it anyway. I have a mathematics test on friday and I need something for motivation, a light at the end of the tunnel :p

Heya all, i watched the video review and decided to cancel my pre-order. Going to pik up on friday and try and clock the game :( tbh i hope i get something out of this game as i have been looking forward to this for ages...maybe mass effect will be the game for me :P
