ATI 3870XT vs 8800GT Official review @ Legionhardware

Even the 2900 Pro can beat out the 8800 GTS in at least some benchmarks, yet this shows the 8800 GTS to be decimating the 2900 XT... In every test.

Sorry, but I can't trust this review as far as I can throw it (and considering it's an intangible object that ain't that far).

Err... that's a 320MB GTS... which is slower than a 640MB..and a fair bit slower than a GT. Do the maths.

oh come on m8. im disabled i don't use a keyboard to type. i type like that to speed up my typeing.

I'm only teasing with tounge firmly in cheek mate, you'll get used to it. :p

320 vs. 640 makes very little difference at 1280x960. :p

Fact of the matter is, even the 2900 series aren't as bad as that review made them out to be (at least on newer drivers!), so how can we trust their performance for the 3870? Maybe it's just my wanting for a new, good, cheapass card (read: 3850), but that just didn't seem right.

Has the legionhardware review been taken down? It's got no information in it for me... Never been on that site but I trust it about as much as... Well, I don't trust it.
That Tweaktown review doesn't look too bad really, depending on price my arm could easily be twisted the 3870 way.

Yeah and I just need to tweak these 7.10 drivers so I can test it out again lol!

Loadsa what file is it im looking for cos there is a bunch of em!

I think "trick" is a tad harsh, it was just a sensible marketing move to keep them in competition

lol yes I agree its a marketing trick

the fact is this 3870 is so bad nvidia dont even need to release a G92 GTS or GTX and if they do prices will be high, shocking just shocking it gets utterly spanked in most benchmarks, i do want competition its ashame ATI isnt providing any.

Here's another review from a more well known and respected site.

http://www.tweaktown.com/reviews/1222/asus_radeon_hd_3870_512mb_g_ddr4/index.html

that review just screams buy 2 of me for some xfire goodness.

i'm more inclined to go with their numbers versus the legionhardware review ....theirs look a bit off compared to 'other' 2900xt numbers.

with a single card i'd hang out for the GT to come into stock but i think quite a lot will go down the xfire road with 3870 and be pretty happy with the results, i'm happy to drop from 140fps in FEA
