Scotland V Italy + other Euro games **spoilers**

See I don't get that, i'm pretty sure 90% of English people will be happy to see Scotland go through.

Actually I reckon 10% will, the other 90% won't give a **** either way.

I'd like to see Scotland qualify, but only in the typical British sense of wanting the underdog to do well. If they were in a mickey mouse group then I wouldn't be fussed. If England qualify then obviously I'd rather France or Italy didn't make it as Scotland would be less of a threat. I neither hate the Scots as local rivals, nor support them as fellow Brits.

Looking at the table, that loss to Georgia really hurt Scotland. Had they scraped a draw then a point against Italy would seen France needing to beat Uktraine.

I would like to see Scotland qualify just to see them get one over on the Italians/French

I feel dirty for saying it mind

At least Russia will pan the carp out of Israel and we can celebrate England's horrific failure!! That'll be just as good!

This is exactly why I want Scotland to not go through. The majority of Scots I know take just as much pleasure in England losing, as they do in Scotland winning.

I suppose it comes from years of being inferior/jealousy ( at football! )?

edit - not trying to be a **** i'm genuinely unsure of why they take so much pleasure in England losing.

The italians are in for a nasty reception at Hampden, and I think it'll get to them.
Doubt it. All the players in the squad have gone far more menacing grounds than Hampden.

3-1 to Italy im betting(hoping).
Di Natale
Fadden
Big Luca
Big Luca

I hope France lose. Not because it'll help Italy, its because i just dont like their manager. The pompus, over opinionated, ignorent plonker that he is.

Perhaps not but you must also appreciate that a post or opinion such as this can appear to be supercilious. You may not intend it to be so but that doesn't ultimately affect the way it appears.

I'm now at the stage where I don't really give a stuff if England qualify or don't except for the value of winding up my English mates but then I'd do the same with any sport or any nation. I'm now inured to the tribulations of being a Scotland supporter so there is little enough schadenfreudal glee to be taken from anothers failure.

I sometimes wonder about what other fans feel like because there are few teams capable of beating the best in the World then losing to minnows the next. For that reason alone being a Scotland fan is rewarding, you never know quite what will happen but you make sure to take the most from the victories and not get too disheartened by the losses. I wish the same joy and sorrow for everyone, it is character building if nothing else. ;) :)

that's fair enough and we expect the same in return tbh.

I'm not biting that bait.. pointless.

you won't understand that - it's a scottish thing. It's as if it's in our blood. It's not that I hate English people individually. I have english friends, etc, etc.

It's the country as a whole, it's the attitude, it's the loutish thug football fans. It's the monarchy, it's the beurocracy. Generally just the overall attitude of the nation - the way it's been for years and I guess always will be.

When Scotland beat France - the tartan army went parading through the streets of Paris and were met with cheers and a friednly reception from the local parisienne's.

If this were an English mob they would be smashing windows and setting fire to cars wherever they roamed.

Maybe its because ****s like you take any opportunity to condescend us? Just a hunch.:)

Not remotely bait, as I said, if it's possible i'd like to understand why it's the case.

If I was condescending, it wasn't meant in that way, hence the edit. I just find it a tad interesting in the fact people are far happier with someone else losing, instead of actually being happy in their own success.

I have a few Scottish friends, and when they lose I don't ever comment on it. The other way around though, they never let me forget it.

I enjoyed reading that and I wish to subscribe to your newsletter.

You would be entirely misunderstanding, I've never seen a Scot celebrate more because of an England loss than a Scottish win but YMMV as they say.

If you want to believe that Scottish fans are happier with an England loss than a Scottish win then just put it down to the definition of a well-balanced Scotsman. No skin off my nose either way. :)

//edit haha, cheers Tru, I'm obviously going soft in my old age. :o

They way they act is how i'm judging my opinion, it has nothing to do with my belief.

As I say, they comment more on England losing, as they do when Scotland win. Doesn't make sense to me, if I ribbed them at every possible opportunity, then yeah, i could appreciate them having a go when the shoe is on the other foot.

I can't speak for your 'Scottish friends' but everyone I know has been too caught up in our own adventure to give a tinkers toss about England FC over the last two years.

^^ Prime example!

I'm not trying to be a ****, but, if you really didn't mean to be condescending then you wouldn't have posted this...

I suppose it comes from years of being inferior/jealousy ( at football! )?
...because, let's be honest here, that's pretty damn condescending!

Could I kindly suggest that if you want to debate this further you start another thread please. This one is meant to be for discussing Scotlands chances of qualifying and I'd rather not see it closed because it has become a slanging match over whether Scottish fans do or don't care about English results.

//edit and for what it is worth I'll probably contribute to that thread when I wake up tomorrow.

Hence the problem with a forum, it's hard to say exactly what was meant.

I can only comment on the way it was meant, i'm taking a guess as to why the hatred appears to be there. It's the only reason i could think of at the time.

**Fair comment Semi. End of discussion.

My in-laws came round last night and gave me an early birthday present, a ticket for saturday!! :D

Can't wait
