Hi, looking to play the HL series and am looking for a bit of info.

There are so many versions of the original HL and I'm wondering which one is the most/complete version to buy to enjoy everything this game had/has.

Same thing goes for Half-Life 2, I know there is an original with just the game but recently I saw a second copy with some extras so I'm again wondering which one is the most complete version to buy

I will then follow that up by purchasing the episode packs for HL2.

Thanks for any that can help

Half Life = main story line, play as a scientist running away from aliens and military.

Blue Shift = Play as a security guard in the facility.

Opposing Force = Play as part of the military sent in.

So really you don't need to play Blue Shift/Opposing Force at all, they're just extras.

You do see freeman, running into the teleporter before you can get a shot off :D

Thought it was quite clever how they did opposing forces and then blue shift all in the same story line from a different character's point of view though, although you get about halfway through opposing forces and realise it's the end, and blue shift was barely 2 hours worth of gameplay.

Can you sum up HL2/Ep1/Ep2 like that please, saves me the trouble of playing them. :D

As mentioned, Valve Complete pack is what you want if you haven't played any of the games before. Should work out at around £60 including tax I'd guess, and this includes all the different multiplayer mods.

The singleplayer elements alone should last you well in excess of 50 hours I would have thought.

I'm only interested in the story of the game, the single player packs. I want to purchase the games that cover this. Which I thought is the 2 I mentioned above?? I plan to play HL1 before I move onto HL2. I played HL1 briefly years ago but never really finished or progressed far into it before moving to a different game.

This is how I'd play it if I were starting out:

HL or HL:Source (same game, but is on the source engine (used in HL2))
HL Opposing Force
HL Blue Shift

HL2
HL2:EP1
HL2:EP2
Portal

You could also play HL2:Lost Coast any time after HL2, but it is not related to the story. It's a demo really.

Gosh speaking of demo's you should also play the HL1 demo, called 'Uplink'. It was a standalone game really that didn't have anything to do with the story really. I would play that after HL1, personally.

You're probably best off just going for the valve complete pack. With the weak dollar it should be a shade over £50 with tax, which isn't bad for everything you get. As stated, play HL (and maybe then blue shift and opposing force), then HL2, ep1 and ep2.

It would be hard to play? Do games cease to be good once the next gen graphics appear on the scene? :o

They look really bad and it did in its sday as I owned all 3 titles, (cant remember but there was a add on and counter Strike), Max Payne etc can still pass today but that game looks liek a early Amiga Game.

Why the embarished smillie ?
