Welcome weescot,
I too have been wondering how a Penryn Quad would do with the SMP Client.
So far with the Linux Client there hasnt been anything to test to see if any extra cache would result in faster folding times.
If you use the Linux Client running it x4 (Highest points per day) be carefull with your overclock, Windows stable is by no means stable with the SMP Client in Linux (can be very frustrating to find a 24 hr prime stable overclock just wont cut it when running 4 Clients).
Some of the SMP Work Units can be dodgy, by that I mean some seem to stop at a certain point (frame number) if this happens the Client usually deletes the WU and downloads the same WU, if this happens three times(stopping at the same frame) it will then download a new WU. Usually reducing the overclock will not stop this from happening.
The "supervillin newbox" WUs are the most temperamental, I have reduced my overclock and run just one Client and still had this happen with these WUs, some are fine but then you just get a dodgy one and wonder if your system is stable, all fun and games and folding with a quad in Linux.
Hope your quad runs well for you, and let us know your frame times Im sure there are many of us interested in how Penryn folds.
sculptor.
PS: judging by LigerZeros output yesterday I think he's missing being in Cell 1
