Basically.

I started at collage this September. And it is possibly the biggest mistake I've made so far in my little life. I'm doing a BND IT Practitioner course and it is the biggest load of tripe ever. The content is very very dull, I'm not learning anything. Half my lessons are based on those stupid IT buzz words and that really REALLY grinds my gears <insert family guy picture>.

Now, i really want to get away from it ASAP before i waste more time there, and money because it is costing me and my mum a lot of money.

But because of that i don't want to drop out into nothing. I want to do something.

I kinda like the idea of apprenticeship. The ones BT offers look really appealing to me but here's the biggest thing..

I've missed September. So that means I would have to wait for months and months and that is just totally unfair on my mum and I couldn't do nothing for months.

So I'm a bit stuck - i don't know what to do. Ideally i would like to dive into something right now but it looks like every apprenticeship starts in September (for obvious reasons).

If i could get a semi okay job (i mean I'm not picky but I'm not working at McD's) i could do that for a few months, until September i mean. But i just cannot get one.

I've applied for nearly 30 jobs recently and only got a response to one. Orange, long story but the position was filled before i even made it to interview.

And that's obviously because I'm a 17 lad, not great GCSE's. No previous experience. Nothing to my name - why would anyone want to employ me?

I'm really stuck and don't know what to do and its REALLY getting me down :(

Wish i could turn back time. heh. :(

How about speaking to your college about changing courses?

If nothing else you could do something more interesting or pick up a AS Level til September.

Same dude, same.

My A-Level course is screwing me off on Mondays and no job :(

Ah well, :D

Got some student review thing tomorrow. I'll ask about it. But to be quite frank I'm not sure there's owt i would enjoy. I'm pretty specific about my hobbies and interests and obviously at such a low level there isn't much to choose from. (FYI I'd ideally like a job in computer networks, but hands on work. Or something electronic like a BT engineer)

Good call through, I'll speak to them see whats what. *finger crossed*

My uni course bores the hell out of me. But im gonna stick at it so i can get a job afterwards.

If you cant stick college, do you think you could stick a job where you have to go every day and do pretty much the same stuff?

gotta think positively about your future, and if you finish college you will have a better chance at getting a better job :)

Glad I'm not the only one who thinks its ****, I was fortunate enough to get a place even though i didn't have the required qualifications (crappy coursework) so i talked with my college and got moved down to the level 2 course which is a year long, I'm sticking with this as then i have the qualifications needed to do any Level 3 course next year in which im planning on doing A levels.

Ok ima rant

The problem with my course is i haven't really learnt anything, we are using eMacs and very unprofesh. software...

i actually get depressed walking into that dammed room

No windows, plain white walls - Mental room

But yea, im not one to complain much - I'm sure my course will pick up and ill enjoy it more :D

Hey, it could have been worse - I might of not been on this course ;)

I see what your saying, But its not the same thing everyday that gets me. Its the not learning anything. I feel like im just doing NOTHING other than spending lots on money on going to a collage that still treat me like a child. Thats all. Also on that note thats why i like the idea of being a BT engineer. Being out "on the road" going to different places, tearing up those green boxes etc.

Also saw a fella linked to information about working for national rail. That'd be totally awesome but a bit out of my league i think!

I'm trying to think forward, but then. Based on what lots of people have said (in fact there was a thread on this very course here no so long ago) its not actually helpful without experience. Argh i dunno this is just all frustrating the hell out of me. I cant stand the thought of 2 more years of doing nothing. The most interesting part of my day is watching the trains at the train station. Seriously it is. Arrgghhhh

Ahhh they tried treating us like children, calling us kiddies etc saying awww

After a few days of playing that game back to em they ******* stopped doing it

By the law of something or other you WILL do something usefull in ATLEAST a 2 year course dude

Stay positive ;)

In the exact same position mate...

on a level 3 btec national - complete waste of time

i'm starting a good night school course after christmas though, 18weeks (SQL, Java and VB.NET) only an introduction... but once that 18 weeks are up I can go onto the higher course

this college course should get my into uni... and thats what I want - so ill waste 2 years here then actually get to do somthing in uni

Have a speak to your Student adviser :) or career adviser... whoever - she really helped me out

Looking at the units. Erm, One thing appeals. C++ in year 2.

But im not even sure i want a career in IT anymore.

Certinally not in the suite and BMW side of it.

Rather be one of those fat, smelly tech's in the basement :)

Cheers azzerz. I will do, in terms of IT and comms etc i think the collage im going to at the moment is very limited to be honest. If i could afford it I'd love to move out of this **** whole and get near a better collage (infact im already an hour on the train away from my current collage!)

but hay, ill see what they say :)

yea thats what my course is like at the minute, its like im repeating my a-levels. but my course (electronics communications and software engineering) is supposed to get more interesting after christmas.

so i see what your saying about not learning anything, so if your course doesnt pick up at all i know i wouldnt be able to stand two years of it.

just have a long hard think, talk to older people with experience, assess all your options, and do what you feel is the best one :)

I'm glad about mine, but i think i almost made the same sort of decision, i nearly chose Computer Programming, it's good, but i can find it tedious at times, this was also at a college which really didn't feel right (they even had uniformed security guards about the place!). But i'd been to an interview at a closer college with a better atmosphere beforehand for Sound Engineering, unfortunately the places were all taken, so i was on the waiting list, however i managed to get a place late August fortunately!

Yeah. :) well Christmas is just around the corner so not long to go!

Yeah that's whats getting me, I've spoken to tutors about whats going to happen in the future. Firstly I'm put off because its ALL in year2. and secondly because there are only 2 bits. C++ and SQL. Which are interesting, and i would like to learn but seems a waste to spend 2 years of my life doing it when i could spend a few ££ on books and get taught the same thing (or teach myself rather)

just have a long hard think, talk to older people with experience, assess all your options, and do what you feel is the best one :)

Yeah, i am :) hence I'm still up!

I'm gutted in not a bit older, if i could get some kind of mini loan i would love to travel to somewhere stupid for a month to just to clear my head. Two places i really want to visit. Japan and Dubai.

Thanks man, making me feel a bit better. I was getting a little irrational! even if the point still remains! :)

Rock n Roll star sounds good.

What do you need to do to become one nowerdays? stupid black hair that covers one of your eyes and high pitched voice right?

well, if your stuck until sept, i would get s semi ok job until then to get some money in and in the mean-time study at home towards a cert. loads of IT certs out there if your going that way
