Made the wrong choice. Kinda stuck. 17years young :(

Seriously, I'd re-do some GCSE's at college - maths and english - and get at least a C maybe a B. Then go in to A-Levels.

I totally agree about getting off the course you're doing. I was on it. That course is a waste of perfectly good brains. I wish they told the truth about it rather than pimped it up with blatant lies to get people on it, then maybe I would be at Uni doing CompSci rather than at home trying to find people who want websites.

What annoys/upsets me is I know I'm perfectly capable of doing Comp Sci and a programming job, but I've not got any route to do it :( I'd have to do a Maths A-Level which is 2 years (there are no maths a-level evening courses within 20 miles, not that I can find anyway) then 3 years at uni, so I would be at least 26 before I'm out.

Which isn't that old, but at 26 I was hoping I'd be settled in a job not just out of uni. If I were 17 and knew what I knew now, I wouldn't have wasted my time on that course.

Are there no access courses or suchlike down in England? Here in Scotland we have the SWAP programme which basically involves the student taking a one year preliminary course in their chosen subject after which, assuming everything goes to plan, they will be assured entry to university (and most of the big universities in Scotland do take part).

Or maybe you could get direct entry onto an HNC or HND course? I'm sure they are pitched at the same level as a degree, so you could for example do a 2 year HND in computing, then use it to jump straight into the 3rd year of a BSc degree in comp sci. Or the 2nd year if it was an HNC.

I don't understand how you're paying to do a BTEC? Education is free if you're under 19 years old...

I'm not paying for the BTEC as such, just the stupid cost of train fair. Its 1k a year which neither me or my mum can afford. but apparently we "earn too much" to get any kind of support or anything. Stupid people don't take into account the fact that my mum actually has to look after herself and my brother, niece etc.

And that's 1k spent on learning nothing. Sure i might get a bit of paper at the end of it all but in 2 years I'd rather be doing something productive.

Just got back from "Student Review" day. Where i couldn't even get a word in edge wise. Tutor is the must unhelpful person ever. Probably go to connexions office at some point, maybe they'll help a bit more :)

Oh and just to clear up I've got C's in m/e/s. Although that's not good or anything it does allow me to do A levels if i wanted too.

For the mean time I'm applying for Jobs, should i get one I will leave collage. Then after Christmas see if there's any openings in september regarding apprenticeships etc.

Cheers people - Lets see what happens eh :)

Why don't you want to work in McDonalds? Seriously, it's not that bad.

You are by no means stuck, you have a supportive family (by the sounds of it), relatively good GCSEs and a half decent head on your shoulders (from what I can tell :p) which is more than many others have. It sounds to me like you've got low self esteem, which is probably rubbing off on your CV causing the lack of response from employers. Don't just put "Theses are my GCSEs" and nothing else, blab on about your key skills even if you bend the truth, no one will really care once you've got the sales assistant job.

:) Oh how i hope you are joking!

My CV is just shocking. Just feels silly writing "I this" "Me that" etc.

Without turning this into a "write me a cv" thread dare i upload it and get some help? :o

Nah just happended to be the crappiest on the interweb last night. When it comes to a job all i won't do is working in a fast food resturant (obviously theres lots i wont do, but jobs that 17year old is likely to get i mean)

Theres nothing else opened to someone with bad gcse's, no a levels and no experience.
Life aint gonna hand you what you want, you gotta go out and take it. The way you're going on, you're gonna get nowhere.
Either stick to the course if you can't change it or go out, get a job then at first available oppurtunity get an apprenticeship.

:) That's what im trying to do. I really am applying for absoultly any job I have a hope in hell of getting.

Unfortuntly areas i can work in are quite restricted as I don't have a car that means I cannot look past Reading town center. And there are not that many simple jobs. Well there are but they are all the same - in retail which is a pain because they all want experience! But hay, if i can get Christmas work then at least I can put that on the CV as customer experience.

as i keep on saying, fingers crossed. Figure with christmas coming now is the best chance im gonna get :)

Uni isn't a free pass into a job, you need to work hard to get the qualification. If they handed them out to everyone (although that seems to be becoming more the case with all of these "universities" around now) then they would be worth nothing.

But yes you probably should have gone into industry rather than go to Leeds Met.

don't think you quite understood my post

I was agreeing with you, basically saying that I feel my degree will be useless to me if/when I qualify, I said I would be better off going into industry and working my way up, WITHOUT a degree

Sadly on these forums some people are to quick to criticize

Can I just say something here. There's no such thing as waste of time really. Your only 17 so theres nothing much higher than what your on at the moment.

Why dont you start your CCNA or a track like MCSE or something like that after this course and get onto something challenging. If it's so easy for you why don't you show them its easy?

at the end of the day this course might not seem valuable to you but atleast you would have in on paper.

I see what your saying but i just do not enjoy it. In fact no, i really <rude word> hate it. And for my on sanity i don't think i can carry on doing it.

Would love to do CCNA/P whatever there called.

How much are they these days? If i did manage to get a job and put myself through one what are they worth? To a potential employer i mean?

I understand that clearly I was in the same position but just sat with it and got on with life, My tutor let me have days off because the criteria was a standing on my head job, which was nice of him (This was 5/6 years ago).

You want something challanging in life how about you get a loan or student grant when your 18 and apply for the ccna course and in the mean while how about you sit about learning things yourself and get a part time crimbo job for cash or something? Depends how your attitude to life reflects on how you want to learn really. Whatever you choose hopefully will be the right choice.

EDIt: Not sure on pricing because different places have different prices.
(I'm currently doing a server 2k3 course and its 500 for 3 monts fast track).

Join the Navy, apparently they flick a switch every now and then to restart the server.

Hmm what happens if the reboot happens when target data is being uploaded.

Then the data does not get uploaded. :D

Yeah upload it i'm sure some one will be able to help you improve it.

I'm also in the same position as you started in September absolutely hate it. It's so tedious and they wont let me change my courses now :o I'm trying my best to stick it out so i can go to Uni but i reckon ill drop out after my 1st year :(

it changes slightly to adapt for job im applying for. That is my latest edit

Looking at that C.V I think you need to stop on that course. On the other hand why not go into your local centre to look into pricing on CCNA e.t.c?

Thank you for your home number and address and mobile number and date of birth. Stop on that course if I was you.
