PS3 info

You haven't played it lately then mate, its hard getting people to stfu at the moment lol.

I'm gonna get back into this once the rumble controller arrives. Can you imagine the rumble when you guys fly into my airmines :D

My only problem with the comms (aside from the fact Sony seem to have mis-gauged how many people would own a Bluetooth headset!!) is the push to talk, I hate it!! Although in some games on the 360 where it is a free for all it gets too noisey and you don't know who is atlking and people shout over each other.

I'm a fussy git!

I still say Sony should release some kind of Mic (I'm not sure if they have yet) as it would solve a lot of issues.

Though being honest i'm not a big fan of Mic's in games, people just put me off and annoy me.

BY the sounds of it, PS3 has issues with some games, but they are slowly being resolved and it should cease to be a problem within a year or so?
A few slowdowns here and there don't bother me much, but if they were constant throughout the game, then that would begin to annoy me.

I think I will go for a PS3, since there are games on it that I quite want. And lot of the MS games are coming out on PC anyway.

Is this noise thing a big issue? How noisy is it compared to the original PS2? Because I have no problems with that and don't even hear it unless i'm right next to it.

I don't know why people harp on about noise, the PS3 doesn't make any unless you want to put it on your ear and take a good listen. It's the quietest console.

If there is one thing I'd praise the PS3 for it's how quite it is, anyone that thinks it's loud must have very sensitive hearing or they have a broken one :p

Indeed, while downloading stuff i switch the monitor over to my PC, the first few times i have to check it was still on it was so damn quite!!

I agree. Rather than giving Casino Royale to all those people free they should have sent out a cheap headset.

ok post all your objective research Nokkon...... -its your own opinion- dude...

Given youve got both x360 and ps3 this shouldnt be that hard to do. It might involve recording side-by side comparisons in good quality vid format for each and every single game and uploading somewhere but hey you're the one whose making claims (and repeating them ad nauseum) so back them up could you.

Ive played Oblivion on both systems ps3 version for me is much much better. Cleaner, crisp graphics, less loading times, less pop-up. Just better.

You won't change his opinion. What he actually means as he has not tried any games side by side himself but is basing it on internet reviews/mates/mates of mates etc. Which is what a lot of people mean when they say that PS3 games are sloppy when compared to 360 equivalent games (which to be fair a lot of ports are).

In terms of real tests I would imagine the best he has managed himself is to compare 2 demos side by side ish which I am sure is the only test he has real life experience of, as I doubt he has bought both copis of a multi plat title to test to back up his/other's opinions. Ironically (maybe) he would be the first to defend a 360 game that only had a demo available and would tell others to wait for the full release to judge etc.

Its all just opinion at the end of the day, if I only had a PS3 why would I give a rats ass that some other guy with a 360 has got a better frame rate etc? I would take issue with anyone who claims that there is more than maybe 2 games that are unplayable when compared to their 360 equivalents, if it is still playable then I don't see the problem. Before the PS3 came out people wee happy to criticise 360 games with genuine faults, now these same people would rather take the stance "well at least it's better than the ps3 version" :D

Enjoy your ps3 and don't let the naysayers ruin your experience for you is my stance (I have both consoles and regularly buy games for both).

The thing is.... if somone repeats something again and again and again...then a lot of ppl (who dont have ps3's and havent decided which console to get) take it as gospel and fact. I dont dispute that most of the Xbox360 ports are much better on the 360 (i'd expect the lead one to be better).. but every single one of them except Dirt? I'm sure to him it is: but is it objective fact? not really.

Curious to see how UT3 turns out. A decent and unbiased online side-by-side comparison will be interesting indeed.

but yeah enjoying the ps3 (probably more as a multi function media device rather than solely as a games machine)

One thing I will add as I own both consoles (when my 360 decides it will work)

Both GRAW2 and The darkness (comparing demos btw) run noticably better on the 360 (this is based on a back to back play as I was dubious myself).

The PS3 just seems to suffer a tad of slowdown whereas the 360 doesn't. Both games look identical.

The simpsons demo however runs exactly the same on both consoles (ie both suffer slowdown to some degree)

Of course I will say if I hadn't have done this test I wouldn't have been any the wiser.

To the op: Personally I would only get the 60gb model if you actually care about backwards compatability. If you don't then save your money and get the 40gb model.

I say this even though I have the 60gb model. The only thing I think I would miss would be the card reader however I am sure I could live with this.

Also for clarification the PS3 is extremely quiet, ie you can't hear it unless you actually go up to it or watch your films on mute.

Ratchet & Clank looks okay, although incredibly linear and for a lot of the first hour, on rails (literally). It's funny and quirky, but as a platform game it's quite dull. I'm a massive fan of platform games, Jak & Daxter being on of my favourite games around. Short of the humour, R&C really doesn't offer much and it's a million miles from revolutionary, you could infact argue it's not even evolutionary.

I'm sorry but ratchet and clank looks a lot better than just 'okay'

Its easily one of the best if not the best game in its genre to date.

Been looking around, and looks like it's about impossible to get a PS3 unless I want to pay ridiculously over the top. In real terms, how much difference would getting a 40gb make to me?

The ps2 compatibility is the main thing, which I suppose isnt THAT big a deal since i'm not getting rid of my current PS2. what else should I really be concerned about? having no memory card reader etc. would it affect me?
