Should I sell my GTX now?

It's still an advantage over the 512MB version which I stated, and even 2100 memory with 256bit bus does not match the bandwidth of the GTX or Ultra so thats also still an advantage, nothing you said changes this.

Also, this is about selling the 8800GTX for a 8800GT, not which is faster as we all should know the answer to that, 8800GTS is still an unknown as we don't know for sure which core it's using or where it will be priced.

True but your question was "should I sell my GTX?" and be whether you replace it with a GT, the new GTS has a bearing on that answer.

SHort term, no it's not worth selling your GTX for a GT.

In a few weeks when leaked (hopefully) results come in on the G92 GTS 128 SP, then it might be a different answer cause if the new GTS does beat a GTX and the price is £200-£250 range then 2nd hand prices of GTX cards are going to drop just like 8800GTS cards have now.

So I would keep your GTX for now but look again at maybe selling in a few weeks time

What you talking about? my question? This is not my thread and the poster was clearly thinking about the 8800GT. We don't know if the 8800GTS will even use the G92 core yet, It may just be a improved G80 core and could be priced quite high since it will have no direct competition.

Until we know what core it uses, how it overclocks and how much it will cost this discussion is a waste of time, all I said was you can clock a 8800GTX to "new 8800GTS" speeds or higher and have the advantage of higher bandwidth and also in the case of the 512MB version also more memory, again nothing you said has changed this.

Unfortuately the GTS will be the card to get making the GTX & GT redundant very soon.
fixed :)

In fact thinking about it if you take the speculation at face value, when the new GTS appears the GT will become the slowest Nvidia card (not including the replaced GTS obviously) at the OPs res, with GTS>Ultra>GTX>GT ;)

Nope.:)

When the GT can be had for 130-150 like it should it will still have its place.

The GTS will cost over 200 imo an will the extra sp really make that much difference?

I doubt it, as the 256 bit bus will still limit the AA at higher resolutions.

Nvidia lists two GTS cards on it's site - a 640Mb G80 and a 512Mb G92.

And you can't clock a GTX to new GTS speeds as it's coming as 650 as stock and should in theory clock to same as the GT so 750+

I;m just saying now is not the time to swap to a GT with a new GTS round the corner so that does make a difference.

Almost all 8800GTX's will clock to 648/(650) and 1625 shader clockspeed, infact mine does 675/1620/2052 and has been clocked like this for over a year, ;)

Also there rumoured to be a 512MB and 1GB version of the new GTS, I don't know why your talking about the old 640MB version, and AGAIN we don't know which core it's using yet, if it's a modified G80 core as some sources suggest then don't expect anywhere near 750, neithermind higher. :p

My GTX only did 602MHz, though I wasn't clocking the shader independently. :(

That was unlucky. I never done the shader clock independently either on the two GTX's I tested for a m8. Both BFG but one was an original 8800GTX, the other was OC2 and both went to 650Mhz no problem first time on my system. I never tried further as I was just seeing if it would hit the average overclock then onto some game testing/stressing.

This hype about selling your GTX to buy a GT just has my sides splitting :)

I bet an nVIDIA PR started this up so as they are able to sell more cards lol.

"How do we get all the GTX owners to give us more money by buying a slower card?"

Cause your the one saying nobody knows whether it's going to be G80 or G92 core!

I'm talking about the 8800 GTS 112sp 640Mb G80 revised which is out now as off 19th November and the yet to arrive 8800 GTS G92 128sp 512Mb card due 3rd December or now maybe slipped to 12th December.

The revised "old" core GTS is out now and not due to speculation as to what core it is. Look it up. BFG and EVGA both have them out but ocuk not stocking yet.

The new 512Mb and 1gb have to be the new G92 core as you can't have 512Mb or 1Gb with the G80 core. End of story.

And chill out and get off my case man! :p

Then you were very unlucky, I've seen people reaching as high as 690 on with the stock cooler but most max out at 648, maybe you should have got a XFX version like me, they usually clock well :p

Aye I agree with both of you about it just being unlucky, I know most of them go much higher than 602MHz on the core. Mine was an OcUK one that turned out to be an Nvidia branded OEM model, so it was probably one of the ones left over after the branded ones were speed-binned.

I do disagree that I should have bought an XFX model though. Used them before and their customer support is utterly dire, which is why OcUK refused to stock them for so long. ;)

It's not like that at all. I sold my GTX to buy a GT because I bought the wrong card in the first place. Yes Nvidia make more money, but I got £100 back and my new card is actually faster except in exactly one situation (Crysis in 1680x1050, all high with antialiasing.) :)

God I feel so gullible now that I'm £100 up without losing any performance, shame on me! :p

Edit: I see you have an 8800 Ultra. Explains everything.
