360: elite or premium?

Yeh so how the the Premium better than the Elite? It's better for his needs yeh but it's not the better console.

Lol, console wise, maybe the spec is a TINY!! little bit better.

Price wise: Prem > elite
Value wise: Prem > elite

Does the Elite not have a HD-DVD player inbuilt? I am presuming the Premium does not? I have just bought a Premium which does have a HDMI output, although I use the HDTV cable plugged into the component sockets on my tv (tis the cable it came with). I did not go Elite because I could not justify watching hd-dvd films for the additional cost and the hard disc would not be used that much?

Have I not got my info right? Does it not play HD-DVD? Or does the Premium with HDMI now play HD-DVD? I am presuming it does not.

Also, will the HDMI socket be better going in to my LCD's HDMI socket, than it is currently going from standard cable to component?

Thanks (apologies for my poooor knowledge :)

No current xbox 360 has HD-DVD drive built in.

The extra cost of the elite is down to the larger hard drive.

Cos he said so. :s

LOL

Seems sensible to go for the Premium as I have no desire to download TV - it's crap anyway. There's very little I watch in TV.

20Gb is fine for saves and a demo or two. I don't see that people will store tonnes of demos, just play for a bit and decide if it's worth buying the full game.

Is there no "tweak" to use an external USB drive yet?

If you no desire to download movies then a Premium (now renamed as Pro) is perfect for your needs. You've plenty of room for demos (500MB to 1.2GB in size) and arcade games / downloadable content.

Also music and videos can be stored on your PC and streamed to your 360 should you want to do this.

As for models. MS have only one basic 360 whether that's an Arcade, Pro or Elite. All have/will have falcon, HDMI and the same specs. The difference is what you get with them and what the colour/trim is.

Arcade ~ Wireless Controller ~ 256MB card, Composite cable
Pro ~ Wireless Controller ~ 20GB HD, Component/Composite cable, Headset, Ethernet cable
Elite ~ Wireless Controller ~ 120GB HD, HDMI 1.2 cable, Component/Composite cable, Headset, Ethernet cable

Mine came with a component/scart cable where you choose connection by way of switch on the cable (bought it last week). It does have a HDMI socket on the 360 itself. Curious as to whether picture would be any better if at all than going component into my LCD?

They are now shipping with the HDMI port, not the cable (Well not according to Xbox.com that is.)
The V2 console has HDMI slot, HDMI/TV cable included also.
This certainly sounds like the component cable (which is dual purpose) the HDMI cable is standalone.

I don't think the new premium comes with a HDMI cable, mine didn't anyway.

I went to a number of unnamed stores today looking at premium deals and the same as above. The revised Premiums have HDMI ports, although they don’t come with HDMI cables from what i could see and was told.

How much do you think a 120Gb drive costs over a 20Gb drive. Not much!

So why is the Premium better than the Elite "fact"? Because it costs much less and has a smaller hdd? So for £50 more you get 100Gb of space. I know that seems a lot compared to a pc hdd but this is a 2.5" hdd which retails at about £100. (I know it's very very overpriced on its own)

I'm not saying the Premium isn't the best option for some people. I'm just arguing I can't see any "fact" to show that its the better SKU.

It's so strange - I want an Elite because I love the black colour, but I ain't paying the extra for just the extra disk space now that the Premium has HDMI.

As someone else said, it's a slightly odd move by MS - but perhaps they had to do it to fight off the PS3.

i got my xbox elite 360 for 340 quid, with forza 2, 2 wireless controllers, and any Game of my choice, in the price range of 50 Pounds, it might have been less than 340 im not sure, it was no more than that.
