A pic for all you Mercedes lovers.

What do people think about the SL350?

I drove one a while back. It didn't exactly set my pants on fire.

Turn the heated seats up, its the only thing that will get close to making your pants burn. SL65 on the other hand, that would firestorm a small country while parked.

What's with all the young asian male nonesense?

And to think these people are called men of honour? men full of **** more like

I don't see your problem?

3 of my 'young asian male friends' own 2000 onwards merc convertibles. 2 others own audi convertibles (albeit diesels), they sink a hell of a lot of their cash into them as within their own cultural circles its a real status symbol.

Why are most of the cars on the US ebay motors so cheap (compared with the UK)?

This is... just amazing.. How can anyone not like this car?

Its not that I don't like those cars, just that they don't really do anything for me.

They all look the same.

The problem being that it was a rather sweeping generalisation. Just because some people you know use cars as status symbols it doesn't mean everyone else does... It's like saying all hair dressers drive mx5s etc

The man of honour comment wasn't just aimed at that post in particular, should have made myself a bit more clear i guess.

Back on topic though, that AMG above is the ****. Pretty sure I saw one very similar with the reg BOW1E going at considerable speed on the m25 a few months back.

I quite like the fact that to some people they look "boring" or "all the same", it'll make a nice suprise when you hear it flying past :D

Agreed, never been a fan of Mercs really.

I don't mind the sleek lightning fast looking ones, but I can't really get into them like I can other makes. I'm the same with BMW (although not as much). Perhaps it's something to do with the fact that they don't have names, just letters and numbers.

Meh, Mercs are posers cars, for young asian males and the middle class. While I haven't any personal experience of them, the motoring press has stated numerous times that they are pretty hopeless as drivers cars, and as such it seems to me that the only reason they put such big powerful engines in is so that the owners feel some sense of superiority.
I'm sure you could buy a porsche for the same money, i'd have one of those every time.

Again, missing the point, they dont claim to be ultimate drivers cars, and nor do they need to be. Take my S-class for example, as a drivers car its appauling, it rolls all over the place on small roads and the gearbox doesnt like this kind of driving either. For the type of driving i do however, which is thousands and thousands of motorway miles, combined with a little bit of mincing around town with friends, there is *nothing* better this side of a rolls royce or a bentley. This is where mercedes appeal, no-one else does a car as good for the money if you want a luxury cruiser. The big engines are needed due to the weight of the cars, and to produce a smooth ride, although i would agree that i cannot really see the point in any more power than my 4.3 V8 produces, the car doesnt need it nor does it suit having any more power than this really. I think around 4-5litres/300bhp nasp is the sweet spot for a car like these.
