seriously , steve mcclown should win. i mean henman failed, but we're all used to that, hamilton failed, but only just, most of the guys up for it failed, but only just. no one failed quite as magnificently as mcclaren did. that makes him the most successful loser of the lot doesn't it.

seriously though, what did radcliff do? did she run a race and not pee herself?

She just won the new york marathon after giving birth in january. She ran her first competetive race in september and then won the marathon in november.

A far better achievement than someone who has a better car than someone else.

In fact i'd say henman only being the 10th best tennis player in the world is a better achievement than F1 world champion.

Hamilton all the way !! He's a rookie beating the current best in his sport.
Hatton is more than a match for his opponent; he'd have to be a new comer to match Hamilton's success.

There are more deserving people on the list, but the public will vote for Hamilton - its a popularity contest remember.

Also both Nigel Mansell (1986) and Damon Hill (1994) won the award for coming second in the championship before winning it for coming first (1992 and 1996 respectively).

He retired this year and has been Britains best tennis player for the better part of a decade, while he possibly hasn't fulfilled his potential for whatever reason he is/was a very good player and exponent of the game. :)

Right ok. So why is he in the odds for Sports Personality of the 'YEAR 2007'?

Irrelevant anyway since there isn't a chance in hell he will win it. Strange that his odds are better than Jonny Wilkinson though since his achievements in the World Cup are fresh in some people's memories.

I dont see what paula did to be anymore special than any other year, yes she had a sprog, but i bet she was training while she was pregnant, these kind of sports people just do not lose fitness.

Either Hatton or Lil louis, the bottle it takes for these guys to compete in their sports is immense, the pressure on them in the ring or on the track must be something we cant even begin to imagine.

I suspect the Rugby team will get the team award, as to come from being that crap to getting to the finals, is nothing short of a miracle.Plus we beat the Aussies, again:d

Because he retired in 2007 after helping GB qualify for the World Group in the Davis Cup again and he is a famous name. I also think that he is more of a personality than many give him credit for, he hasn't been afraid to play the game on his terms and the feeble fist pump aside he hasn't bowed to public pressure when it simply isn't in his nature to be overly-demonstrative on court.

Having said that, I can think of worthier winners this year but I wouldn't underestimate the impact that Henman has had on tennis in Britain. :)

One thing I always wonder about this sort of thing is what effect organised gambling can have on the voting. Dunno how much it costs to vote but I wonder if there's any chance of it being fixed/biased a bit.

Hamilton would be the obvious choice, and in fact, arguably the correct one since he has probably been the biggest personality of the year. As mentioned though, a Hatton victory the night before could throw a spanner in the works.

If hatton beats Mayweather will be hatton if not it will be calzaghe

Joe Calzaghe surely? He's actually won something for starters. But then its all about personality which Hamilton has in abundance. Yeah right.

I would give it to ricky - he has a heart of gold and is possibly the best role model out there :)

Hamilton has years and years ahead of him to win this plus I dont think he deserves it this year imo - not with some of the other competitors in there.
