Got the failsheet for my SJ here and one of the lines is -

Nearside front (outer sill area) body has an unsatisfactory modification, seriously affecting its strength within 30cm of the body mountings [6.1.3]

"unsatisfactory modification", wtf? it's a sill, not something that is open to much modification, satisfactory or otherwise.

Is it a posh way of saying "another hole"? If so, why doesn't it just say excessive corrosion (like the rest of the fail sheet)?

Or is it just another way of phrasing it?

Cheers

Smart arse, you'd understand if you drove a classic like this.

Admittedly even one of the MOT guys wasn't overly keen on it. Something about having to sweep up the crap that fell off my motor when it was up in the air :D

By modified I would have thought it would mean that it's been welded up in an unsatisfactory way. Assuming it hasn't been chaved up.

Why didn't you ask and question the tester?

Didn't read the sheets till i got home (and they were shut). Was just happy it was less than last year.

Must just be rust then, phone up and ask tomorrow. For the future when you car fails, you instantly ask and not just drive home.

I recognise most sutff and my eyes just flashed by it when i saw the "within 30cm of body mounting" bit. That just instantly made me think that line was about another rust hole.

It's a surprisingly short list for a car of this type, headlight aim, blown bulbs, duff horn, couple of spots of welding and unsatisfactory modification.

I use Station View down by the train station. Stings at £42.50 a pop, but they're very flexable about re-test times.

1985 Suzuki SJ410.

Had a guy in getting a Vitara tested, looked at mine and was telling me how much he loved "the old Samurai" wagons. Nope, this one predates the Sammy :)

That's the place!

He was renting his side office to somebody. The guy was gone by the time they aired the program. His dad sits in that office and watches the totty walk passed these days :)

That's not possible anymore, with computer testing

They seem to do it for me. Dunno how the computer stuff effects it. Might book it as a new test, but just check the work done?

Do they get charged per test they run through the system?

yep, if they book it as a new test, then they get charged. If it's retest it has to be done in x-many days.
