The French are revolting

Rotty - hope your trip goes ok and you're not inconvenienced by it too much - I know what it's like, especially when it's not your fight you think "why the hell should I have to put up with this".

thanks. hope the thread title didn't offend :)

Look on the brightside, you'll be in Lyon.
An amazing city. Love everything about it.
The 'D' line underground is especially good. Brand new fancy, open air stations, on trains that are automated with big glass fronts.:D.

Been dozens of times and it is a nice city but I don't often get time to see much of it, I actually end up working near Bourgoin Jalleau about 20 miles away ( actual nearest town is Villefontaine but that is not a place you want to go apparently )

I'd LIKE to see Sarko do something about the problems, but the segregation has been a part of French society fo so long it's not going to be easy if at all feasible. I just feel sorry for my friends, first the greves and now this.

France has huge problems and IMO is heading down the pan if not dealt with, immigrations issues, unions, outdated employment law , reluctance to change and a massively insular attitude

and yes I know the English have the same attitude re language and culture to some extent but whether the French like it or not, due to English being the global language in the developed world, we will get away with it and they will not, they will become increasingly isolated

Slinwagh was misunderstood, his comments are clearly just a little bit of teasing - I bit his head off unfairly, let's try and get back to matter at hand!

Oh please the French resistance was made up of a few French men trawling the countryside on pushbikes armed with only onions, garlic and a limited supply of harsh language.
Plus the assistance of..

I have just heard on the news that they were looking to deploy the French army in a bid to to quell the riots but no one has seen French soldiers since their mysterious disappearance circa 1940.

Ha, says the Englishman :)

. It could be a deep mistrust of authority, it could just be a way of radical expression in an environment where they don't feel at all part of mainstream society.

If they choose not to take part in mainstream society can they lay the blame for this as the door of the general population?

I hate that I'm poor so I must act like a thug attitude.

I came from a socially deprived area, I had two choices,

A) hang around with my mates steal rob do drugs and end up in jail or

B) work damned hard (in my poorly performing school) get my grades and get out!

I choose B. If they choose A don't blame mainstream society for it.

Wait. So what are they rioting about?

Some dumb kids with no protective cloths or helmets that were speeding on a bike killed them selves when they crashed into a police car.

Now the Familys and the rest of the areas are blaming the Police and are rioting.

BTW the kids were Ethnic if that helps you understand why they are rioting;)
