Xbox Video Marketplace in Europe soon, limited release

Do Pipex even exist anymore? I thought Tiscali bought them.

Anyway they don't do unlimited so you're mistaken. You're bound by a FUP in any case.

I am on Pipex, their fair use is about 50gig a month or so they told me on the unlimited, but they would not bother too much about out of peak useage, can't see me ever using that much though :)

I'm on pipex too, And to be honest, English ISPs as a whole need to realize caps need to be raised or removed, If HD movies and shows are soon to be a legal downloadable reality, Then surely ISP's need to cater to this.

You have a HD show on every week, I like to watch 24, Prison Break, Smallville, Scrubs and my name is earl.

They will be what? 800mb each? Ish anyways.

So thats 5 shows, 4 times a month.

So that's 15.5gb.

Add to that movies I have every right to download also. Movies will be much bigger no doubt.

Add to that internet usage, Music downloads and online gaming.

As I said, ISPs need to change.

I'm on Pipex unlimited too and use more than 50GB a month. At one point I had a bit of a random download addiction and got the FUP letter through the door. I was taking the urine a bit though, downloading near enough 24/7 :o they only care about hammering them from 18:00 to 00:00, other than that they don't seem to care too much.

I'd change from Virgin broadband in a heartbeat now, the capping is annoying. I'd have to get a BT line installed though so that's out of the question really.

When do they cap you? Ive been on virgin for the past month and havent noticed a cap, although i dont really download anything at home other than the odd 360 or ps3 demo.

Depending on what time of day, Through peak hours, If you download 500mb the cap kicks in. I think they are more lenient out of peak hours

I personally wouldnt touch either Tiscali, Orange, Pipex, Talk Talk, BT, AOL or Eclipse with a 20ft barge pole.

I am with ADSL24 and the customer support is spot on aswell as the speeds, I asked 3 questions and got replies to all of them within 2-4 hours. I remember doing the Bioshock demo (1.1Gb I think) in under 30mins and I also did the GRAW2 throwback map packs (about 1GB again) in under 45mins after I switched over to them in September.

The only problem I am having is with disconnects all the time while playing on Xbox Live, but I am 95% sure that is to do with my wiring or telephone line since I have switched both ISP + routers and it still happens a lot.

Varies between £12-20 tbh.

It's our UK isp's holding us back for whatever reason. That's the main problem and has been for quite some time now.

It's all down to capacity, or rather lack of. They can't just buy more when they run out, they need to try and balance it out.

Actually its not the ISP's that have held us back it was BT's monopoly on the phonelines/exchanges for years and thanks to that we are behind certain parts of the world by about 5 years.

The problems are down to congestion at all the Exchanges nationwide and the only people who can solve it is BT since its their network infrastructure, but they are actually piloting their new network called 21st Century Network (21CN) and is meant to have most of the country wired up by 2010 (which I think is highly unlikely) (more can be found http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BT_21CN)

E.g ADSL2+ (which is considered to be old now) has just been recently being pushed out the door more where as some countries have had it for years now.

a 45 min programme in HD is going to be a lot more then 800mb. It'll be at least 4gb in size. The only thing I can see you getting 800mb is a show ripped from HD but compressed which is what a lot of illegal downloads of shows are.

Ah right, Well that makes it miles worse then :D:p

If I remember rightly the downloads on the marketplace are only 720p. Think when I downloaded one on my US account it was around 2gb in size (I'll have a look tonight when I get home). 1080p would be around 4gb maybe more.

Some people just love to be bummed by their ISPs. I've been with UKOnline for 2 years, 19.99 a month for the 8MB service. I download a LOT and they've never warned me about my usage, I can't believe people pay £30 a month for some ISPs and can only download 60GB.

It's not BT either, it's the ofcom regulators.

Why isnt it BT? they still provide a very high percentage of ADSL to the UK either through their own ISP or by selling to other ISP's through BTwholesale and because they've had a monopoly on everything (except cable) they have had no competition so nothing has been there to drive them forwards.

Ofcom isnt totally innocent either I will agree with that because we've got all this capping, speed throttling etc just because they wont stop ISP's advertising 'Unlimited' connections when they are infact severely limited and thanks to them doing jack **** about it they continue to get away with it.
