GeForce 9 series, due for February 08

I'm saving every little penny up now for this beast, and I'll probs get 50 quid from the GT

The GTs will be worth way more more than £50 come 9800, there is only so far it can depreciate, i mean people are still paying £40+ for 6800GT's.

I think it will be still worth £100-130 then as the next card up will be the GTS and then a £450 9800GTX.

Makes 8800 GTS G92's now kinda pointless really if this is true, don't really wanna spend £200 ish in on a card for 3 months which would then be worth £100. Bloody Nvidia!

That happens with all hardware.

Although I have no idea where you are getting the figures from..

Oh I see you just make them up.:p

Your talking about the GTS.

a: Its not even out yet
b:No one knows how much they will be on release
c: You already know that in 3 months a GTS will be £100

You really know your stuff!:D

Don't you only get the step up program in the uk if you got the card from one of their listed system sellers?
Depends what they mean by 'system sellers' on their FAQ. I bought the retail product and they might be referring to cards shipped with a new system? Anyone got any info on this?

Can i just shock you and say i wouldn't be at all surprised if even the 9800 will not be maxing crysis out at anything over 60 fps
Probably true; but if I can upgrade via EVGA's step-up-program then I should be getting a card that's likely twice as fast as my current and only have to pay the difference between what I paid for my 8800GT (higher than RRP) and the RRP of the new card.

You don't know it won't be £200 ISH, nor can you disprove that it won't be worth £100 in 3 months.

Counteracting my guesses with your guesses, good show.

hopefully i can get a pretty penny for 8800 gt sli set up and buy one of these, if the performance is greater than that of these 2 puppies together

Its all speculation at the momment so hopefully it will be good. Before crysis, oblivion was the Top game to test your GC. Very Stressful on it and it took a generation or so to start seeing it being played at max (with high frame rate)

So i think it will take a 9800 refresh for it to play crysis at 60fps with high settings. This an estimate before anyone jumps on me

With these new cards, do you need a mobo which has the newer PCI-E standard? i.e. not PCI-E 1.0 or whatever?

Ta very much like! :)

Apparently all PCI-E standards are going to be backwards compatible so the 9800GTX or whatever should run in PCI-E 1.0 and 1.1 slots, but I cant help thinking there might be a performance drop if you are not using PCI-E 2.0.

Pointless? Hardly.

They're a worthy, more power efficient refresh of 8 series and will fill a gap for nvidia as well as rounding out their product lineup. I mean come on, when they release the 9800 do you really think it will be their top seller? Absolutely not! History has always shown high end GPU's sell in the minority compared to the mainstream and sensibly priced products. The G92 8800GT and GTS will see further price cuts over the coming months and begin to fill in new price points whilst the rest of the 'old' line up is either chopped or drastically reduced.

Yeah that's what I was thinking, but cheers for the reply. :)
