**Official ABIT IX38 QuadGT Review/Overclock/Guide Thread**

hey,

I have completed 8 hours prime stable @3.0 GHz, but windows (not Prime) decided that Prime had a problem and will close it was still all green for Go but when I came to the keyboard and pressed OK it shut prime down.

I am Priming now at 3GHz again, with older Graphics drivers to see if that was causing me problems.

The Pain continues.

right, I came to the rig tonight after several days leaving it without power and I get this:

107_0757.jpg

I have now tried to clear the CMOS 3 times and removed the RAM leaving a single DImm in slot 1 and it won't go any further, it doesn't even respond to the keyboard (F1 or Del)

Anyone know how to sort it ?

Final straw me thinks :(

if you don't have any success after say 30 minutes, you loose nothing by leaving it out overnight. It might be worth unplugging everything that's easy, leave cpu on if your h/sink is a pia to remove.

luck:)

Anyone got further feedback on this board, starting to have my doubts about whether it deserves a place in my order now!

Well I've already chosen my setup, 8800GT and an IX38 quad gt mobo, I'm getting a q6600 and ocz 2x2gb reaper ram. I've got a week till a couple of the parts I want come into stock and basically, with my mobo choice I can either:

Switch to an asus maximus formula or other x38 chipset
Go for an IP35 pro instead
Save £70 and go with IP35 as a stopgap until the winning x38 boards or maybe a better and newer chipset comes out (780i or x48? will these be ddr3 only?)

Very interested to hear your opinion supershanks, you are pretty well qualified to advise. Note that I don't mind losing the £70 if I end up using the IX38 as a stopgap, as long as it won't be a solidly worse performer than the IP35 (not pro).

Supershanks or anyone elses advice would be muchas appreciated.

I should be able to tell you more early next week, I am RMA'ing my PSU, possible cause for my "Graphics woes"

My specific problem:
http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showpost.php?p=10543796&postcount=68

Background:

http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=17798624

Basically the 8800GT is very specific when it asks for power from the PSU, if it doesn't get it within so many milliseconds of it asking for it, it will go into Spaz mode.

This is the theory so far, it could still be a problem with the IX38's PCI-Express system [as I checked the card in slot 1 & 2]...a change of PSU will find out once and for all me thinks.

The only other thing which I find greatly annoying is the fact that after leaving the system off for any length of time I have to Clear the CMOS before it will post, if I don't it goes through a cycle of:

spins all fans, then reboots,
Spins all fans and reboots a second time
Spins all fans but keeps them spinning, but doesn't post.

I hope someone somewhere had an Idea as to why this is and how to stop it !

hey Guys,
I am happy to report....all systems go !!!

Replaced the Enermax Galaxy 850 with a Corsair HX 620 and all my issues have seemed to melt away.:D

I think there is a bit of an incompatability issue with the Galaxy and the X38 boards, Also reported by Clunk......nothing to do with the amount of power available, more to do with the timings of certain signals ?

Anyway...happy bunny right here, now....time to OC ;)

Hey, considering not getting sli now as ive been informed of all the 680I problems which is a shame. So ill get a GTS and then upgrade to a 9800 some time in june with a new monitor to boot.

Anyway, now im looking at an x38 board. I orginaly wanted an IP-35 pro and considered it to be the best of the P35s. Are the quadGTs now the best of the x36s or is there something better?

Its a little early to say whether its "the best" X38 Board out there.

Certainly as I eliminate the faulty componentry in my build [PSU and now some Ballistix] :o its proven to be a rather nice board. The bios is feature packed, running the latest Beta bios [12_b] seems to have solved a few of the rough edges with the shipping bios.

Seems well built and the CPU area is clutter free so the choice of aftermarket cooler is yours as you wish !

Combined with my 8800GT I think it will only get better as newer bios's are released, it will soon be overtaking the IP35 pro me thinks.

Hi there,
Just got a delivery of my Abit IX38 GT, Q6600 Quad and Antec 850 Power Supply. I also have two 160GB Hitachi HD in raid 0 with a borrowed HD3850 Graphics Card. Only using a stock cooloer at the moment just to get the thing up and running. I having great difficulty with the board posting. Initally with it booted up I got into bios had a look around setting up the usual settings. I even got past a point to where you could ctrl I to set up raid disks. After that I've be having terrible with posting. It seems to hang. On the LED it notes 90. The previous no that appear prior to 90 it 82 & 83. I have a fair know how with PC but this is starting to bug me a little. Any help would be appreciated........

Good good. Id like a mobo that can do up to 500fbs for furture cpus where they may overclock like beats. I hope that i wont need to upgrade mobo for a while if i get the x38 what with it supporting new cpus and pcie 2

hi,
I had trouble with it not posting, it would spin all fans, then shut down, spin all fans then shut down, final spin all fans and keep spinning but not post...this was a faulty PSU, changed from my Enermax Galaxy 850W to a Corsair Hx620 and bingo...no more problems !

Hi, the description of your fault is exactly whats happening. I've gotten it as far as the bios again but haven't had a chance to toy around with it. The ****** PSU is spanky new came along with the order. I have another 850 watt an OCZ in another rig. I will change it out tomorrow and keep you posted on the results. Hope it also tames the stock cooler I have it on at the moment and its like an airport up my comms room with the noise of the thing.

Cheers again.

yup, my Enermax Galaxy was spanky new too...I think its a compatability issue?

I have also found one of my 4 sticks of Crucial Ballistix 8500 was faulty too..removed the offending stick and now 12 hours prime stable at 3 GHz.

ademcg,
Tried a replacement PSU, had a 550watt which I know works fine. Plugged in relevant components, still the same boot up sequence. 00 on led, jumps to 83 stops at 90 and hangs. The only thing is that on the initial start up with the 550w psu it did a restart which if memory recall is code 99. There might between 00 an 83 a code that I missed as its quick in changing. I've change also the 4 gbs of corsair dominator to 2 gbs of Giel and swapped slots on MB just to check. The only item left to try is GPU, which I will change when I'm home from work. I have a 2900XT in another machine which I know works fine. Other than that has anyone else an other suggestions? Or is it time to send a request to Overclockers for an RMA No.?? Any help would be appreciated.......

Rock...

Rock monster I had exactly the same problem with my IP35 Pro this weekend.
Cutting a long story short my PCIEXP1 socket was borked, try the other socket. My thread is in the ABIT section if you want a look.

Hope this helps as I was pulling my hair out for 2 days.
