What do you Believe

This is quite a good read, if I was going to believe in a god it would be this one...

Conversation with god

If you like that, then this is along the same lines and written as a play....

Resurrection

good stuff, I just read that while listening to Brian Eno, was a good read,

"‘Ecstasy is merely a reward for procreating, it is what makes you want to do it. This is necessary, initially, to promote biological evolution. However once you’ve completed that stage and no longer require procreation, you will learn that ecstasy can be infinitely more intense than anything offered by sex’

I've believed that since I was a young boy, when I was 12 practicing astral projection once I had such an amazing experience, I felt like for a nanosecond I understood everything, I felt like I was truly connected to the universe (I know, sounds crazy), it was a beautiful feeling, I didn't release it at the time but for a while it was a bit of a curse because everything else paled in comparison, it made me release at a young age that all the things that people were doing in the world to try to achieve happiness externally was pointless, I knew that true happiness or rather contentment came from within.

I believe in evoloution and I believe we are just one planet in a vast universe that is full of life.

However I also believe that there is a spiritual side to life and that all living things are not just the same as rocks and and gasses. God if that is the word you want me to use can be seen in the spark of life and I believe all living things have a connection back to "god".

There is a higher knowledge in nature, mathamatics you could say, that enables plants and animals to adapt and survive however this is done without the knowedge of the entity it's self.

Some plants have adapted to catch flys for example but it is impossible to imagine the plant has any understanding of what a fly is. Some higher mind made the plant adapt over time and for me this urge to survive and spread life is where you can see "God" at work.

I believe in the spirituality that religion guides you towards but I also believe all mainstream religions to be so incredibly shallow and small minded when looking at the universe as a whole.

yes yes I know peoples views on astral projection but believe it for not even when I was young I never believed that I was leaving my body and at the same time I didn't disbelieve either, I was always open to the fact that what I may be experiencing could just be biological, it was an experiment more than anything, and one that changed my life and perceptions, I have a good ability at being able to experiment and study topics/subjects very open-mindedly, no matter how illogical or absurd they may be, what I like is to experience and understand everything from every angle.

I think you probably whitnessed a moment of enlightnment when you felt the entire interconectivity of the universe. I had fleeting moments of it during the time I was practicing meditation. Of course this could be a human trait and entirely in the mind, but it certainly didn't feel that way though.

I believe in Jesus, as the son of God (and God himself), as the Saviour of the world from the power of sin. Also I believe that God is good, that there is no imperfection in him, all bad stems from sin and Satan.
I believe the same as Squark :)

**** me I created a moster thread:eek:

Anyhow when It comes to religion I find it a load of ****. However religious places and places of worship do have a certain feeling of power about them I feel. Many a time used to be dragged off to an old monestary, Cathedral or temple ruins by my parents whilst on holiday and every time I got to one o those places I felt a strange feeling. Mabey it's just me!:p

I believe in fairies, hob goblins, god, the devil, lepricorns, the loch ness monster, magic, harry potter, turtles, 42, string theory, big bang theory, what our government say is right, equal rights for all. I believe in everything everyone has said no matter how they contradict each other. But I dont believe wasps can sting. People say they sting, yet I don't believe it. I have never been stung by a wasp. I believe that snakes bite though=, but I have never been bitten by a snake.

Na, I'm only kidding, I believe in me cos I am the greatest. ooh yeah baby.

i believe that the human race will wipe itself out. I also believe that there is no god or higher being and that religion is the root of all things bad in this world, without religion the world would be a happier place.

Resurrection

Ive just read through that and It makes no sense whatsoever, it strikes me as a rather long-winded construct by that man to support his own beliefs. It doesn't seem to have a basis on the character of God.

Woohoo! Another one!

Throughout this thread all I've tried to do is express and explain the Christian faith as clearly and truthfully as I can, it seems to me that whenever I do this I spark some bid debate and controversy.
I'm not trying to put people down in my posts, I seek to be honest and considerate to the opinions of others.
I love these opportunities to express the faith I have, its also very interesting to listen to the views of the other guys on the forum.
I do seem to get attack more than other for expressing my faith, but I honestly don't mind that, so long as it doesnt get personal, I fully accept that some people find it extremely difficult to accept what I accept to be the truth.

That about sums it up for me

Science is not an answer it is a means to find one.

Science isn't even that. It's a means to predict accurately the way the observed universe behaves. Trying to make it anything more than that is to (a) ignore the purpose of the scientific method and it's assumptions and (b) as faith based as taking a religious text to provide truth.

Kinda the same as I felt afte reading the bible tbh :D

Please don't think that anything I post is a personal attack. You seem like a friendly and nice enough bloke. I'm simply trying to understand how you can have such faith in something without a shred of evidence, and a lot more evidence to support that what is written in the bible is mostly fiction. I am also trying to understand how you can be so sure that your god is so full of love after some of the things he has done in the bible.

Purely a debate imho.
