Dilemma, I just can't decide.

I guarantee they will not be playing it on 'Very High' and be having an enjoyable experience with an 8800 GT

Just my opinion.
I can verify that 'Very High' is choppy as hell with a BFG 8800GT OC 512MB.
Looks exceptionally pretty as long as you're not moving much though ;)

Sorry but if i've just spent a good few hundred pounds on a PC, I want it to look good, and apparently there are HUGE differences on Crysis going from Medium -> High -> Very High (not just some un-noticed minor touches)

I wouldn't say i'm a graphics whore, in fact my quake/2/3 looked like mud when I used to play.

Edit: and going back to the OP...

I do like as much graphic detail as possible and I loathe the idea of playing Crysis in low graphic detail.

I have both a "supa dupa" DX10 pc and a PS3.

Guess which one I play games on more ?.
Guess which one can play blu-rays properly without sounding like a train ?
Guess which one looks good under ya telly ?
Guess which one works best when you've got a few mates round ?

You got it :-

PS3 all the way !!!

Taking your post into consideration i propose this.

If you like Sitting at a desk and feel more comfortable with a mouse and keyboard then go with PC, theirs loads of stunning games out for it and more to come.

If you like lounging in your arm chair/sofa and playing on a huge screen (if you have one) then a console is for you. Since their are loads of games out today its probably a better choice.

Personally i would go with a console, you will have more fun with your friends coming round (idea - Get drunk and play wrestlemania), you arent set on the idea on graphics looking the best but like them to look nice which is another reason for a console. Its your choice though mate.

It's worth noting that UT3 will be mouse and keyboard compatible on the PS3, which I'd imagine will pave the way for future titles to also support it.

Have to agree with the others here, since i got my PS3 my gaming PC is just gathering dust.
As for the deadzones it really is a non issue blown out of all proportion by a few people on here.

low is not high is it LOL

Hey that must took a lot of effort working out that Low isnt high!

There's probably other ones about, but this gives you an idea of what you would have to pay for to get Crysis working at the resoultuion an detail you want. Also if you are going DX10 dont forget you'll need to spend 50-120 on vista depending what flavour you want (unless you have it of course).

Wow! So many points of view so soon, thanks guys :)
It'd take me forever to cover everyones thoughts so here is a breakdown.

Regarding the graphics with the PC, I'd like to have them as high a possible but I've spoken quite a few people have told me that with their 8800GTS cards, they can only manage medium settings with acceptable framerates.
Having said that I did manage to have a quick play with a customers new gaming box I was reparing.
I let Crysis run it's own optomisastion tool and it said that it set the detail for the overclocked 8800GTS to high.
I'd probably go for an overclocked 8800GT or one of the new revamped 8800GTS that are about to hit the market.

I do sit at a desk but the desking covers the length of the room so I also have my 32" samy and Xbox on the desk.
I also have a very comforable leather, high back office chair which feels great when I am playing on the 360.
My missus wouldn't let me hog the living room for gaming, hence my gaming room.

Up until I bought my Xbox 360 last year, I'd been a devout PC gamer for more years than I care to remember.
One thing I've always found is that I could never really master the use of a keyboard and mouse for FPS games and I think I am overall better with the 360's controllers.
Since owning the 360, up until the release of Crysis, I had lost all interest in PC gaming.

I'd forgotten about other PS3's exclusives such as Unchartered that would also appeal to me and there are a few more exclusives due for release next year that would also appeal to me.
I'm a bit annoyed that the dual shock 3 controller is an additional cost but if I found it it an improvement over the standard controller I would probably buy one eventually (I'll read a view more opinions first).

Overall I think I am now swaying towards the PS3 as blu-ray is something else that will appeal to me.
I'd also be allowed to use it in the living room for watching blu-ray movies so I could play the occasional game when the missus isn't paying attention ;)
We are going xmas shopping after work tomorrow so I think I will bag up the Xbox 360 games I am prepared to trade in and see what deals I can get from one of the places that do trade ins for a 40GB PS3.
I doubt the high st retailers will be very flexible, the deals I've seen so far don't have any games I am interested in with their bundles but if I can trade them back straight away, perhaps I will add a post saying I got a deal with RFOM :)

I'd say save your money.

You have a 360! No need to get another console just yet imo. Uncharted on the PS3 is immense but when is the next killer title out?

If you don't have a HDTV i'd say buy one of those instead.

Wait until there are more great game out on it and dualshock 3's come boxed with them.

Josh

Something else I should also add.
I've just sold a couple of redundant TFT monitors so with the cash from them, the price I will get for the trade in games and the xmas pressie from the missus (cash contribution), I'd only have to fork out about 50 quid of my own money for the PS3 :)
With the PC I would have to stump up more cash and I am becoming a tight old git in my own age.
Of course with my condiseration for new toys for 2008, the new PC would happen.

Thanks for the heads up, nice review.
I'd build a new box based on an E6750, a Gigabyte P35 series motherboard, 2GB RAM and more than likely the new 8800GT.
The 88000GT has really impressed me at work and I am new converted fan of BFG overclocked graphics cards.
HDD's would probably be a pair of Seagate 320GB 16MB buffer in striped RAID.
Although I think I am now swayed toward the PS3 and the new box will be a new toy early in the new year.

Ignore Mr Men on this :p

I'm sure i had this argument with him before about Oblivion on the PS3, he seems to think you can get a top of the range PC for £200.

;)

Josh

We can drag up the oblivion thread if you want, then you can be wrong again, top range PC for £200? yeah ok then, telling lies won't make your point seem any better. Fact is I already proved that you can get a decent GFX card way cheaper than the cost of a PS3, which was the point someone was wrongly trying to state, so how about you ignore the facts and make it up as you go along.

I could go out and buy a Car Seat. Shall I drive it round the country?
