As title really the new stars website is finally here
http://www.nintendo.co.uk/NOE/en_GB/news/2007/swap_your_stars_for_wii_points_6535.html

Now we can get rid of all those stars and make them into wii points to buy VC titles.

One catch... the exchange rate is awful. 4000 stars for 1000 points. O dear.

Edit: If you cant get to it for some reason then breakdown is as follows:

Wii Points Card 100
This Wii Points Card costs 400 Stars.
>500 Wii Points Card(s) of this type are still available.

Wii Points Card 300
This Wii Points Card costs 1200 Stars.
>500 Wii Points Card(s) of this type are still available.

Wii Points Card 500
This Wii Points Card costs 2000 Stars.
>500 Wii Points Card(s) of this type are still available.

Wii Points Card 1000
This Wii Points Card costs 4000 Stars.
>1000 Wii Points Card(s) of this type are still available.

Thank you for visiting the Nintendo of Europe website! We're currently right in the middle of our preparations for a complete site relaunch. Please come back soon to see our brand-new site. In the meantime you can find direct links to a selection of our products right here on this page.

I have 2825 stars
I sold my Wii 3 days ago & think I forgot to unlink my account on the Wii shop with Nintendo website.
Do I need to unlink it?

I think the person would have to login to the website to transfer any stars. But still it might make it tricky to transfer them if you ever bought a wii again.

I think its something like 250 with each game. 16 games to get 1000 Wii points... nice.

edit- that was in response to punky_munky question which he has now edited out.

I have a ridiculous amount of stars from my GBA/Gamecube days but most of the boxes are back home :(. Stars>points ratio is poor but the stars have never gotten me anything anyway so its not so annoying.

How can anyone moan about something that you get entirely free of charge? Wii games aren't particularly expensive, so to throw in points that can now be used to physically buy something is good, in my book.

OK, so it's not a fantastic exchange rate, but what did you expect? 1 point per star?!

[EDIT: Doesn't work for me either. It looks as though it's limited; why do they only have 500/1000 of each cards available?]

I wouldn't expect a 1:1 ratio but I don't think it would be unreasonable to expect 2:1. The stars arn't free, you have to buy a considerable amount of first party Nintendo products to earn enough for a worthwhile amount of Wii points. Considering the fact the virtual consoles are ridiculously overpriced as it is and they've made stupidly large amounts of profit from them - $80million or something like that off the top of my head (there was an article on WiiFanBoy a few weeks back I believe), I dont think its unfair to expect Nintendo to give a little something back to their European customers for continuing to buy their products.

No you don't have to buy a considerable amount - no one is making you buy games for the Stars, because you buy the games you want and they are included at no extra cost.

The VC clearly isn't ridiculously overpriced if people are happy to pay for it. They could've not bothered with Stars at all, or at least converting them to Wii points if they are making a huge profit on the VC.

I'll agree that the Stars catalogue, to date, has been poor in comparison to our Japanese friends.

Thats odd the site has disappeared for me too now, Either it was wrong or was overloaded im not sure.

I have about 13 thousand points, and have bought games in the past with the stars, so the exchange rate seems a bit much. I got animal crossing for 4000 stars and that was worth a lot more than 1000 wii points. Also figure in the fact the Japs get amazing stuff all the time, it just seems a bit stingy. I was one of the few that got the 1000 points for 789 stars a while back, now I appreciate how lucky I was.

Finally my 8000 points come to use!

they should make vc titles a bit cheaper though, i can get them cheaper on cartridge.
