No one’s making you buy them for sure but for me atleast I see them as part of the Nintendo experience when you buy their first party Nintendo products, and not something stuck in as an afterthought for free. I admit I'm particularly sour on the matter though as I have been looking forward to this scheme since it was announced early in the year - and I don't consider to 4:1 point exchange ratio to be particularly rewarding and as others have pointed out they've had much better offers than this before. This also isn't helped when you see Japanese equivalent getting a rather cool SNES style classic controller. :p

I disagree on your point about the price though. Just because something sells doesn't mean it’s not overpriced.

Case in point - PS3. Overpriced, only value to those who are willing to pay for it. See the latest sales surged tied to the cheaper 40GB model. Of course I'd rather the VC games were cheaper, but they're not that bad.

Just as a point of interest, how much are XBLA or PSN games going for?
 
I'm on it but it is horribly slow. I never knew about the stars before but I've just been through all my Wii and DS games and found a load of these cards, 11 altogether plus 2 cards from the boxes of my DS and Wii console. Registering them at the moment but the captchas on the nintendo site are awful, even a correct entry gets rejected half the time and some you can't even read.

I think the site produces a wii points code when you convert your stars... I think. If you have any going make sure to think of me :D

I'm only getting 200 stars each for these DS games and it says on the leaflets 250. Wii sports and the Wii gave me 1000 points each though, it won't accept mariokart though.

Works for me now, but incredibly slow. Buying 2x 500 points as the 1000 points cards are all gone (find it bizarre how they do it).

The only way someone could 'give' their points would be to give them the code on the card to register. No way to purchase a physical card, that I can see, that would allow you transfer. (Ah, maybe as Tobes says, you would just need to code once registered...)

I get the following when trying to log into the wii points card shop despite my wii recognising that my account is linked:

Access denied
ERR-0300

Anyone else get this?

I did, but it was because I used the wrong password.
 
Hows it working for people at the moment? I'm fine until I actually click to 'buy' some points, then the page just times out.

Edit - working now but says I cant buy more than 2 cards in one day, how stupid :/

Am also getting and don't understand why. My email account on my Wii's shop channel settings matches my email address used to log into the Nintendo website and I can log into to the Nintendo website. From there I can see purchases I made in the last 2 weeks using my Wii on the shop channel so I'm fairly certain it is linked properly else they wouldn't show up.

However when I log into the points redemption thing I get this error every time. I'm also concerned that there is now an expiry on my star points as well for the end of December :(

Annoyed to say the least.

Anyone found a way to solve it?

Even if you can get them cheaper, I'm not convinced it's all that convenient to have as many as 6 consoles (TurboGrafx, NES, SNES, Megadrive, N64, Wii) set up. I'd rather pay a bit more and have just one box that handles them all.
 
Quite handy this thing... I buy nearly all my gear second hand, but loads of my games and my Wii still had the star cards in them. I've just got 2600 stars = 650 points from second hand clobber. Nice!
