Games that never became popular

the Max Payne series was revolutionary!!! i loved that game :) cant beat bullet time just to bad it would never work online

Yea they were amazing games. Definitely in my top ten. The storyline and comic book style was brilliant.

It probably was more popular that i thought, its just i never seen that much excitement about it when it was released.

Single missions: Most of them are easy imo as the ai isn't that bright

On the Hard setting they can still thrash me given half a chance. But you're right, the AI's not that bright... but then neither is the AI of your own side, which is probably why it can be so addictive micro-managing everything.

Wanna play EW or back to war mp sometimes ?

I gave up online gaming when I got broadband... I realised that now I didn't have modem charges or automatic cut-offs to limit my addictions, I could end up with no life whatsoever. :-) In the past I was heavily into Quake1 CTF, and that cost me a fortune. Later on it was Grand Prix Legends. That cost me even more! So I thought it best to retire from online gaming.

Besides, I got sick of being thrashed by people half my age. :-)

Cossacks 2 is poor imo too, tried the demo and removed it.

I can see what they tried to do, adding depth to the game and making it more of a 'grown-up' warfare sim. But the added complexity of morale and fatigue took all the fun out of it for me.

Really surprised by the amount of people who like Infernal. I never would have thought that due to stuff that I am not going bring up in this thread.

I vote for Clive Barker's Undying as well. Thinking about it Dungeon Keeper 2 and Evil Genius. Best sound I have seen in a game, Evil Genius was way ahead in he sound department and one of the few games I played though more then once.

Terra Nova: Strike Force Centauri the first game I played right to the end without it feeling like a chore, fantastic game but no one bought it?

ShadowMan by Acclaim. Got slated at reviews but imo was a very misunderstood game. Very difficult and a harrowing theme, the scariest game (if there is one) I have played, the sound effects and some of the art was very disturbing. A hidden classic.

100% agree.
Completed it twice & have bought it on the PC for 99p last week for another play through. Quality game..!!!

Another one for NOLF and NOLF2, a game I always thought was overlooked was Anachronox great game if a bit buggy. Ion storm released it at a similar time to Deus ex which got all the attention.

lol, your right come to think of it, butters said it in that 'make love not warcraft' south park episode :) one of my favorite south park's that was :)

Yeah that's where it's from, it's a fictional game but Hello Kitty games do exist.

i know its slightly off topic, but i think it fits in with the talk of the older games. my copy of system shock 2 wont run with windows XP no matter what i try, but runs excellently on my copy of vista 64 bit! weird eh? :p

my copy of:
xcom apocolypes dosnt run under xp :(
and got 2 versions of doom 2, on one the mouse dosnt work but sound works fine, on the other one the sound wont work but mouse works fine!!! :( ne1 help with this?
EDIT: and no i cant somehow join them together :)

Homeworld games kinda failed due to multiplayer. Mods tho for hw 1 made a good fan base but died after hw2 came out.

Colonization i havent seen it been discussed that much anywhere and that was a awsome game. Hmm that port royal 2 looks interesting, tho seems a bit too economical sim based, is it too much micromanaging? Or is it small enough for me to easily remember things, cos where once i could play colonization for months and months i duno if i could play somit like that again with the way my memory is these days cos of the stupid computer disolving it lol. Im dling the demo to give it ago tho i hope it isnt all real time, and some is turn based as i dont wana be rushed when doing things.

a game that didnt have much hype upon release and still doesnt really considerign how big it is outside of europe, is Starcraft/Starcraft: Brood Wars expansion. i think its abrilliant game, amazingly well balanced RTS, hasnt really taken off in the UK, but is quite big in USA/Canada/Germany/Poland and is professionally played in Korea (recognised as Korea's 2nd national sport...behind football) - but again this has never had hype, particularly in the UK!

Europeans like simple PC games :)
