Weekend Football *SPOILERS* 8-9th December

Well that was a bit of a let down :(

I think it was just an off day, Clearly Rafa thought that team would be good enough, sadly those players and formation didn't work. When he picked that team he clearly had the next 2 games in mind.

Can somebody tell me the point of Sissoko and Voronin as neither did anything (neither did Crouch but he has shown in the past he has some worth)

Hopefully today was just a blip and things will be back on track against Marseille

Would've been far better playing Kuyt today. Crouch suits a 4-4-2 formation with out and out wingers or a 4-5-1 formation where he's the target.

Just hope Rafas substitutions pay off and we beat Marseille because it's loses like this that he'll be judged on when the Americans come and visit.

Every game might be worth the same number of points but every game is not the same. One would expect Man U to be harder opponents than Reading. If you want those same 3 points out of Man U you have to put some extra effort in to get them.

...and now it is odds-on that they won't get any points from either game.

Take the fan perspective out of the picture and manyoo aren't rivals of Liverpool. They're not playing for the same thing in the league. Nor are Reading. manyoo are going for the title, Liverpool are going for the Champs League spots and Reading are playing for survival. Thats where the fact that points are worth the same whoever they're from comes into it.

Daft planning from Rafa.

There weren't players rested from the starting line-up for Marseille, the subs were made after we were 2 goals down and were extremely unlikely to come back.

Pretty gutted about Villa today. From reading the reports on the game we didn't deserve to be 3 down, was shocked when I checked my phone at work. Manager of the month curse strikes again! Sunderland away, City at home and Chelsea away.. not going to be an easy next few games.

Like I said it was a gamble. He's the professional and he's paid to make those decisions.

I'm not defending him or his team selection (I couldn't care less to be honest).

That was the strongest side Liverpool could put out??

I'm not kidding, I thought 3 or 4 must've been dropped from the side.

Alonso, Agger, Finnan, Pennant and Aurelio are injured. The only decisions to be made were Kewell or Babel for Voronin (and neither are regular starters) and Kuyt for Crouch.

Personaly i'd have played Kewell and Kuyt but when he's played them he gets just as much stick for that.

lucas for sissoko too tbh baz.

Its a shame it didnt work, it just kind of shows that we dont have as much strength in depth as we need.
Im sorry but yes all games are worth 3 points, but tuesdays game is worth 3 points that puts us into the next stages of the champions league, i see it as more important than 3points in the league, especially when the manager may lose his job, ontop of that the americans probably have more interest in it since it generates more revenue, since theres more games.
And rafa may see it along the lines of, "bugger iv mucked it up, i better cut my losses and get my big guns off and save them for tuesday, else ill be out of a job or wont have as much to spend on players in jan"
Id rather progress into knockouts of champs league and have the money to spend in Jan, and have a job than gamble on maybe managing to pull back level or win against reading.

Lucas for Sissoko is questionable with the way Reading play.

I agree about the rest, losing today, which was extremely likely even if we kept Gerrard on, will not ultimately cost us the league where as not winning vs Marseille puts us out the cl and will have much longer term effects on our success in the league (the amount of money we have to strengthen the squad etc).

We just got it wrong today, we should have kept the formation the same and just changed the front men and wide players, bot Voronin and Crouch dont really have the movement to play in our formation.

**** happens, just gotta suck it up and pray that the next two games lead to wins.

Hmm not sure there, I see sissoko as being utterly useless nowadays, lucas maybe could have been given orders to try and hold the midfield, since after all it was gerrard's 'passion' at work again, gaping wide holes in midfield, thought mascherano and sissoko should have been enough to plug it. Actually I see what you mean, where the hell were those 2, it was just all wrong today, suck it up and spit it back out at marseille and ill be happy.

We played the same system vs Newcastle and could have won by 7, the problem was Crouch couldn't hold up the ball and link up like Kuyt did and Voronin made stupid decisions when he got the ball out wide.

Was it the same system? im not so sure.

We shouldnt really have to play both Sissoko and Mascherano in games against the likes of Reading,Blackburn etc

More or less the same, vs Newcastle it was Torres through the middle with Kuyt in from the right and Kewell wide left and today it was Crouch in from the left and Voronin wide right.

Surely you can figure out that Carra is more useful for 90mins vs Utd than 20mins when we're chasing a game? Its not very difficult if you think about it  Would have Carra affected the result in those last 20mins?

edit\ carra was only off for 10mins

Really?!
Because it was Carragher who gave away the penalty and then had 3 put past him against Reading. Not Man Utd, READING!

Carragher made a foul that resulted in a penalty, whether it was a deserved penalty is debatable, just like ours that we won the other week really.
Carra did not have 3 put past him, football is a team game, it was a general breakdown of a team, not Carraghers sole responsibility.

On a side note, did anyone find his surging run somewhat hilarious, even if we'd still lost id have loved that cross to have resulted in a goal, or for him to score, it wouldnt half make me chuckle.

Not really, Crouch and Torres were pretty much uptop for most of the game.Today we used two of the games most immobile players as widemen.
