Just finished Battlestar Galactica... my life now feels empty.

Ok try and buy me over from getting heroes, what makes BSG so good.
Questions:

What is BSG about

Is it quite dark

Is the series a low budget, so like you can tell the ship aint real, or the CGI combat looks out dated etc etc

Whats the BSG mini series (2003) it only cost £5 should i get that along with season 1 and watch it before season 1?

Basically man makes machine, they get smart (cylons) and there's a war. The war ends and we hear nothing for years... until they show up and annihilate the whole planet with nukes, leaving just one battlestar (or so we think for the first 2 seasons, this other battlestar is what Razor explains) and a few non military ships that flee.

These ships look for a myth called Earth to settle on but are pursued relentlessly by the cylons.

Not really, though it has it's moments, Razor is by far the darkest.

This is one of it's strong points. It's quite unique in it's style and how it's shot and it's VERY convincing and really adds to the feel of the show :) One of the best in regards to CGI and I'd include any mega money hollywood blockbuster in that.

It's a pilot episode that's about 90 mins long? Yes get it and watch it ;)

cheers youve convinced me now :)

Ive got the pilot mini series coming, along with season 1:D

Finally watched Razor tonight.

Bloody awsome. I was expecting an average viewing but was shocked at how good it was.

After an average season of BSG, Razor just restored why I started to watch and love this show in the first place.

Fantastic performance by Stephanie Chaves-Jacobsen.

A must see.

I've always thought of it more as a drama that just happens to be set in space, as opposed to a full on sci-fi show.

Razor was excellent. Really, really good.

Couldn't agree more it was excellent, loved the old time Cylons, as well as the plot fillers.

Can't wait for S4 :)

I just obtained Razor, dunno if I can be bothered enough to watch it as it's set in the past (Star Trek enteprise is the only good prequel :)

I'm now looking for my flamethrower :p
Enterprise (Not worthy of the Star Trek prefix) is total and utter pap. Mildly watchable in a few places, but for the most part awful & rides roughshod over established canon far too many times.

If you liked BSG, then you need to watch Babylon 5- Blows just about anything else out of the water.
Another alternative (Much overlooked) is Andromeda- Another Gene Roddenbery creation, but only the first and some of the second seasons are worth watching as Robert Hewitt-Wolfe left & it went far more Star-Trek type. These are very similar in style and tone to BSG, although probably a little lighter.

Razor was amazing, really liked it, added depths to the characters and helped fill in some holes after the start of the war.

looked at 5 different sites now and each number is different:confused:

That is due to the Writers Guild strike is the US, which has meant most big shows will have short seasons. The studios are only able to film episodes finished before the strike started, so quite a few shows will have very short runs this time round. The writers want better royalties on dvd sales (4 cents per unit atm, they want 8 cents), internet media (contracts didn't include iTunes type distribution) etc.

The Galactica writers were apparently keen to strike as they didn't get paid a cent for the webisodes.

Shows hit by the strike include Galactica (est 10 episodes filmed + Razor), Lost (est 8 episodes), Heroes S2 (est 13 episodes), 24 is on indefinite hold as is Family Guy and Heroes:Origins and it will no doubt be a similar story of short runs or an enforced hiatus for just about every other US show too.

Stargate Atlantis was completed prior to the strike, and as the post-production is done in Canada it will air normally. There may be a late start to the next season though.

Expect lots of reality drivel in the states for 2008 :(

Unfortunately, once the WGA strike has finished it looks as though it will be quickly followed by another strike from the Screen Actors Guild.

Why are they striking?

edit: nvm :D

BSG is good, watched s1,s2 and bits of s3 - Roll on s4 :)

To all you BSG fans, this thread inspired me to get the first season.

So far im on episode 5 and feel its a little slow and not much going on?

How long untill it gets "epic", like everyone says it is?

I will stick with it and watch all of season 1, but so far im finding it a tad boring :(

What are you expecting, out of interest?

If it was PEWPEW man vs machine all out war, then you're going to end up disappointed. The first series is far more about the last few survivors of humanity trying desperately to survive while everything around them is horribly ****ed up. It's more about the bleakness and sheer survival at first.

That said, persevere until series 2, and if you're still not entertained by the time [EDIT: Nah, removing possible spoiler], then it's definitely not for you.

Hmm I think you should try "The Adventures of Hercules" instead, that should be more up your street. :P

Epic doesn't mean it has to be constant action from the word go, it also means something that builds up over time, a slow-burner. Stick with it man, it will reward you. :)

theres some real stinker episodes tbh that are nowhere near as good as the others, sometimes the story goes off a bit and can get a little boring for some people, it has for me but I just stick it out because I know there will be 2-3 AMAZING episodes in a row and the chances are one will bring a tear to my eye because of the sheer brilliance of every aspect of the episode.
There are some absolutely cinamatographic(word??you get my drift :P) masterpieces.

I like the show. Thought the pilot special was awesome but series 3, although good, was a bit spun out to me and had too many 'filler' episodes.
