Oil + Filter change at National

Nowhere, there just seems confusion over whether 10w40 or 0w30 is best thats all :)

Go with the 0w30. It's factory fill and has had extensive development work with BMW.

What is the 10w40 option anyway?

Tempting. The Vette's supposed to be lubed with Mobil 1 5w/30 synthetic (when new, so a good 12 years ago now), so I guess this Edge would probably do just as a sufficient a job, if not better?

If it's effectively half the price of doing it myself, I'll just drive it into one of these centres. How odd though, having someone do the work for me!

I suspect I'll have to supply the filter though :p

'tis only an iron block/alloy head V8 so probably fairly flexible with regards to oil but it does run hot (by design), so needs something that doesn't mind sustained high temperature operation :)

When you book online they order the parts in before you even arrive at the garage, you could always ring to double check but they should be able to supply the filter?

It wouldn't suprise me if they could to be fair, I just always assume they'll never have the bits! :D

Nah you book online, they then confirm the booking and then send another email when the booking is fully confirmed with the branch and the parts are in. Was pretty good service I thought.

Mobil 1 10w40 Fully synthetic.

0w30 will provide better fuel economy and I know how much you like that :D

Check out the oil cap on your car. It will say who BMW recommend.

On a side note, Castrol Edge Sport 5w40 is out now.

When the oil's less than half the price to buy though, I know what I'd rather pick :D

Used Mobil 1 0W-40 in my car at the last two services, and it's been fine :)

I do love it when people say an oil is good or bad on internet forums. I never understand how they can claim things like that. And yes I'm sure it is fine, it meets BMW LL01 too.

How much is the Mobil 1 stuff then?

About £45 for 8l from Costco. Gives you 1.5l left over to top-up with between services which is quite handy. BMW want over £100 for 6.5l of Castrol and obviously you get none to top up with either.

I'd just use the Castrol if it was similar price, but because the Mobil 1's so cheap, it makes no sense. I'm sure they're equally good oils, they wouldn't meet LL01 spec if they weren't :)

Nice, comparing the cheapest place for one oil with the most expensive for the other ;)
