I won't be filling up until the prices comes down - if I run low on petrol (got nearly a full tank atm) then VPN and RDC. Just need to make sure I've got enough chocolate in the house to watch the fun enfold. :D

I reckon just boot them all out & start again with a much firmer policy like our Australian friends! Then I reckon we should start putting the long term unemployed through some kind of community service. If you want state handouts then fine but you have to sweep the streets first! No slobbing it up during the daytime drinking cider and watching Jeremy Kyle!

Gaining experience would be better than doing the adult equivalent of ABC, 123 again.

Oh here we go, the money made on us buying petrol now, outways what we don't spend at the weekend.

Time to bring the country to a standstill for Xmas me thinks, best period to do it. As you can all have a massive Xmas break. I have holiday starting next week too

Come off it. There was some research done into this and the findings were that each immigrant has to earn £28,000 or more before they stop becoming subsidised by our country and actually put money into our coffers.

I'll try and dig out the link for you unless someone else has it to hand. It was quite recent research.

No point, I read it. And so did all the supporters of freer immigration who rightly panned it as simplistic and wrong since it didn't take into account everything else immigrants add to the economy.

It's obvious that unskilled workers will always be a burden to society since they don't pay much tax. What they do is enable rich people to get rich and create other jobs. One example: An unskilled immigrant (or unskilled British worker for that matter) allows a lawyer earning £500,000 in the city to work without having to take time off to care for kids. Did the research take that into account? Err nope.

And why have you singled out immigrants? Surely British workers have to earn £28,000 before they break even?

Sorry if your view of immigration doesn't match reality.

I'm not talking about immigration anymore anyway since it's not on topic. We had a big thread on immigration in Speakers Corner recently where the truth came out (largely). Have a search for it.

I've no problem with protesting if you have a decent cause. These people don't.

If the tax on fuel is reduced the Government will simply have to increase taxes in other areas to compensate.

What does it matter if fuel has the tax or it's added to income tax? (Apart from hurting everyone who doesn't use the fuel)

EVERYONE in this country uses fuel in one form or another....

Fuel needs to be taxed at a flat rate not as a % of the cost, the Goverment are collecting 8 million pounds more per day due to the rises in the cost of fuel.

We need to get a vast amount of our freight off the roads and back onto the rail system, decades of under investment and the lack of any real transport policy negates this. Labour have been in power for long enough to come up with some solutions, unfortunately they are completely incompetent !

Well I hope it doesn't screw me up as I'm needing to drive to Wales on Friday night :/ Still, at least I have a dozen fuel stations around me - 12x the congestion!

While I understand the idea behind this isn't it a little self defeating?

If the normal panic buying starts the price is only going to go up costing everyone more in the short term.

A completely agree here... What exactly is the protest aiming to achieve?

Fuel shortages and massive congestion? What a good way to win over the general public

I am sure that people will express their frustration with our government to do something about it. Hopefully people will direct their anger towards the government, as otherwise it will just turn on its head and bite the transaction in the butt.... they will be classified as terrorists!

I'm for rising fuel prices; a motive to use public transport or something greener.

/me puts on coat.

That's fine and dandy if you live in London, anywhere else the public transport is overpriced and pathetic.
