Top paid jobs in the uk

Just out of interest what would you need to study at uni to get into stock broking?

stock broking is so varied; and on the list i think it counts for city trader in investment banks rather than stockbrokers (that can just be sales work disguised). the list might even include banker into that bracket, seeing as i couldn't see it.

if you wanted to get in a decent trader role as a graduate (starting salary of 38k, bonus in 1st year looking at 20k) in a large investment bank a 2.1 and aab at a level is pretty much a prerequisite. furthermore you are disadvantaged if you don't attend target unis, usually the top ten. tough selection process also. has been know for lesser unis to be represented tho.

if you wanted a stockbroker role (which under a broker you would earn a small salary and commission) you could get in with a levels as a school leaver. these types are highly disguised hard sell jobs though.

To be honest, the actual figures quoted are rather skewed.

I know because the "Directors" in our company earn around £43,000 a year - just slightly more than I do with overtime. They are expected to be on call 24x7 and everything ends with them (if you know what I mean) - OK they might just get a company car and some expenses, but they never have a minutes peace. Is it really worth it ?

During the last downsizing, 2 Directors and about 8 Senior managers were laid off. I've been here for 13 years on a decent wage in a no-hassle job..... So whos the stupid one ?

Depends, no lawyer in London should be on the quoted figure there after qualifying...it's way too low!

8th, rock on.

But the real money isn't in any of those jobs...it's in being a Dragon :D

The amount of money they can earn is unimaginable. A colleague of mine has a brother who is a broker in the city. He got a £400,000 bonus last year and that's on top of his salary which is equally ludicrous:eek:

We're in the wrong line of work!

I am in the wrong line of work compared to your self.

You obviously haven't been to anywhere in N.Ireland yet then..... One of the lowest paid places here (as in all of europe, the US and Canada) -only india has worse pay and to top it off, we now have one of the highest house prices in the UK.

From what I can see on that list......

And what I have experienced from 35 years of life.

Money isn't everything. Simply as.

The top paying jobs require devotion.... and by that I mean 70+ hours a week on call..... virtually no family time and a lot of your life chained to the company.

And if thats what life is all about....

Then you can keep all the money in the world. I would much rather have my wife and kids for most of my week and I feel a lot happier being at home with them having fun and not making someone else money.

Man where do you get your information?

NI one of the lowest paid? Now come on think about what your saying.

Also i must ask, what do you work at your self?

What company? The directors where i am start on 58k, which can just go up and up.

I'm pretty sure they take into account all the trainees as well. It looks to be the same for accountants on the list as when I qualify I'm guaranteed quite a bit more than that wage (albeit working in London) :)

Uk average is 28k?! Wow that's a lot more than I was expecting. These are just salaried jobs though aren't they? Not wage-driven jobs?

the general average won't be far off, was about £25k 3 years ago though low wage immigrant workers may have had a negative effect on this recently

It would be nice to see the distribution on some of these jobs. I'm sure there's a few directors skewing the average nicely. Same goes with "Software professionals" - the average is £35k but it's possible to make six figures when contracting. I guess most contractors fiddle their taxes (and thus how much they get "paid") though. :)

We wouldn't get out of bed for that much would we - you still up for that million dollar poker tournament in the Bahamas next week? I gotta take my 2nd favourite jet since the first is on loan :)

:D

Hey i leant one of my Arab friends my third best Bentley and the blighter lost it somewhere inside his A380 flying palace !

Not really fiddling, its the way companies get taxed as opposed to employees.

But I'm assuming it’s based on mean average which whilst correct only takes a few earners at the top earning ridiculous amounts to throw the whole scale off.
They are not counted in the usual figures, but I don't know how ridiculous the amounts have to be before they're not counted.

Personally, I know just one person who is paid £28K or more, and I can't be absolutely certain about them. I know dozens of people who are paid under £15K.

Northern Ireland has had the highest amount of disposable income per person for years, obviously now its way down because of massive house price rise over the last few years.
