You don't "cut" (do you mean carve?) the Sunday roast with the point of a knife
You do prepare vegetables with the point of a knife, you use it to pierce the skin of tomatoes for example.
You think the government should control how we behave. You probably think that the government controls us, not the other way around.
You're plainly have no grasp on reality. Did I say people should walk around with swords? Nope. Those who practise self defence are DEFENDING THEMSELVES from thugs with knives, that's why (when they practice) the "attacker" is using a real blade. That way if it happens in real life they know what to expect.

err they know how to defend themselves and disarm the armed attacker with no weapons, or use things that most people carry (ie handbangs, mobile phones)
But then they do sword/sword training too...
I absent mindedly during an auction site frenzy, bid on a tv replica samurai sword, forgot all about it until 2 days later this whacking 5ft sword turned up at my work. Its now sitting on my entertainment unit collecting dust. :s
Interesting... I suppose in theory anyway it's easier to defend yourself against a long blade (sword) rather than a short one (knife).
Not that I'd want to try either in a real situation. The knife defenses we do in jiujitsu aren't very convincing. Defense against a kosh however is quite believable.
I feel nothing but respect for the straight swords that I own, they are works of craftmanship that reflect a cultural history that deeply interests me. It is this lack of education and understanding that means people are able to abuse these items. I'll bet most of the Chavs with swords in their houses couldn't point to Japan or China on a map of the world.
If society taught people to be responsible for their actions and educated them instead on nannying and dumbing things down then we wouldn't need to ban things.
Banning them is only going to hype them up and now every wannabe hard nut will be off out to get one so they can boast to their mates they own an illigal weapon.
The whole thing is farcicle and shows the total short sightedness of the government with regards to social breakdown.
I don't think you have the mental power to defeat a Kosh- even a P9 telepath was blasted across the room when fighting a Vorlon
so by this definition we should all be allowed to carry kukri's around a, gallons of concentrated sulphuric acid, and nitroglycerine, as non of them where originally designed as weapons.
The only reason why people collect imitation swords is cos they look good/wana show off/need an excuse to cover a stain and that's not a good enough reason to keep them imo if some of them are used for killings etc. If you really appreciate the craftsmanship and dedication that goes into making their real counterparts then you'd buy the real deal, even then you should need a licence.(unless you do already)

People will never be responsible for their own actions, anyone who thinks they will is living in a fantasy world. This is why we need laws - to set out clear boundaries for behaviour and to protect everyone.

I can't believe Chefs say points on knives are not needed.
How are the government going to differentiate between replica and genuine swords then? I can see that being a minefield. Is it only historic weapons (say more than 50 years old) that are allowed, or could I get a samarai sword shipped from Japan? That wouldn't be a replica, made by a proper japanese swordsmith. But then if the police came round how would they know it wasn't an imitation?
This is another one of those labour laws that won't have been thought out properly and will just descend into a farce. Well done labour!!

Swords on the other hand were made for one purpose; to take life.
Wrong. Only those used in combat or those with mental problems. People kill people. If you gave a fountain pen to a pschyotic person he'll kill with it.

Most people are responsible for their own actions. However I agree this is on a sliding scale but the majority do not go around attacking eachother with blades.
Maybe your right but I guess this is just a reflection of knife culture and using a sword is one up.
I retract nothing that I have said and refuse to believe I live in a fantasy world when I see nobody in my circle of extended friends, family or colleagues acting in this crazy irrisponsible manner.
