Greatest Military Hardware

Looks a beast. The Russians definitely have some of the coolest gear. Love their mobile launch vehicles. You can't hit what you can't find

Combine that with a good C3 (command, communications and control) net, and its even better. Another unit further away in the C3 will do the tracking, so the SAM unit can keep its radar off till you're in range for a good shot.

Typhoon, I plan to be flying one within 10years :)

The best weapon is the one that no one wants to fight against.

So the nuke wins it.

but people are fighting against the nuke, and as soon as someone comes up with a good defence and deploys it, MAD goes out the window.

So, if the F22 is so great and able to shoot planes down before they are seen, why has it got a machine gun to use???? just how far do bullets travel up in thin air? Loads of pilots will tell you the same thing, give us a plane with no guns and when we get into a dog fight, we are no use at all. I know, it can shoot planes many many miles away, but there will soon be counter measures to all its misiles and it only takes one plane to get through to gun range, then your toast...

For my vote, not sure its classed as hardware but id go for gunpowder.

All modern fighters can shoot down aircraft before they can see them, they just use radar (BVR).

Why have guns? Back up, or just when it's not nessasary to use a $100,000 missile to destroy a target.

And just because an aircraft slips through and doesn't get hit with long range missiles, doesn't mean the F-22 now becomes a sitting duck.

It makes sense for a pilot to fight with his aircraft's strengths. The MiG-19 will fare best in a turning fight (and has triple 30mm cannons to use up close), the MiG-21 has good short-range missiles and out-turns literally anything else below Mach 0.6, and the MiG-25 is best at flying high-speed, high-altitude and launching BVR missiles into enemy formations.

1 F-22 can take out half a dozen F-16 before they could see who's shooting at them. 10 F-22 can take out 60 of those X-47, any swarm will now be a few odd planes :p

The F-22 is only that good because of the whole of the system around the F-22. If it can lauch a missile at a target beyond the reach of its own sensors, then it is using information gathered from other sources.

This is exactly the same as the UCAV's. In a stand off 'dogfight' like that the plane is merely a vessel to carry sensors and missiles.

The main difference between the F22 an the UCAV in this situation is the UCAV is cheaper and expendible.

However realistically, as both these systems are part of the US 'war machine', they can never go up against each other in the way they would go up against a real enemy.

In a dogfight, the F22 wouldn't have a chance against a UCAV. The F22 itself is ultimately limited by the person sitting inside it.

The automatic rifle.

Helicopters suck. They're so weak ><

And the nuke is not a good weapon at all. One gets fired they all get fired = End of world

I disagree, unless you are talking about theoretical UCAV's that haven't been invented yet.

UCAV's are very limited at the moment, as the pilot just has a screen to look at. Where as a pilot in a F-22 will have a much better view. And greater performance.

does the mircochip count?
its the bases of all modern military technology and without it things will be a lot bigger or a lot less advanced

The modern gun if its about killing the most people.

The nuclear weapon, if its about sheer destruction, able to take out whole cities.

The SR-71 purely on how advanced when it was built. Looks beautiful and way ahead of the Russians.

Personally I don't think stuff like Gunpowder or microschip counts, you might as well say Electricity or even the Atom ! Breaking it down to the fundamentals and common denominator just proves how important something is but useless in a fight. For example, you hold a microchip in your hand and I'll have an RPG, lets see who wins.

depends on how close i was to you

if i was next to you and you fired the RGP, neither of us

if you were a good distance away and you fired, you win

Now you are just nitpicking, you'll have that microchip, I'll have a Uzi. Either RPG, UZ, 9mm, or even a Knife, who do you think have a bigger chances of killing someone?

rpg don't explode instantly, they have to travel a certain distance it would be like getting hit by a giant metal slug.
