Many people would back raising the alcohol age limit to 21

A three strikes and your out method would be best, where you can buy beer at 18 but if you are in an 3 alcohol related crimes/problems you have to wait until you are 21. That way the friendly responsible drinkers can be left alone while the idiots amongst wil have to wait until they are 21. It may also cause the idiots to calm themselves down to keep their right to buy and drink alcohol. A hard method to put in place, but the only real fair way to deal with the situation.

Wouldn't work unless there is an I.D. card system (whole other thread), and that ain't getting through with all these Gov. Dept. losing discs in the mail. If this many have gone missing in the same way, then it must be common practice. :o

Perhaps an alcohol licence is needed, much like a driving licence with points and bans. Although it would cost, maybe the gov could make some revenue off that and tax the sale of alcohol less:D
A very far fetched idea but without doubt possible.

So how does the freedom to purchase alcohol constitute adulthood?

That's not what I said

I said ... this thread is about the freedom to purchase alcohol.

The other guy stated that alcohol is just a part of adulthood.

I don't see where the confusion is for you

Sounds a fantastic idea, 21 would be a much more suitable age, it would also reduce the HUGE amount of people mid 20's going to liver transplants cuz they got ratted younger and damaged themselves.

Oh - so it would just move them to late 20s then because they got 'ratted' when they turned 21

Yeah i agree!

Lets raise the driving age to 25 too! Infact lets make it illegal for anyone under 50 to purchase sharp objects!

It's because of people like some of you lot, Britain is quickly turning into such a nanny state.

Exactly - it's just stupid.

And if it starts - when is it going to stop?

They raise it to 21... oh wait they've still got the exact same problems... hmmm... raise to 25... uh oh... still problems... 30... omg still problems! Prohibition!

If this comes to parliament... fingers crossed there will be enough MPs with the common sense to throw it in the bin!

Its the same kind of stupid idea like lowering the drink driving limit. Most people are capable of having a pint, and are still able to drive home. Lowering the limit wont make any difference to somone who gets completely tanked up, then gets behind the wheel.

I am genuinely terrified that you think like that. Any amount of alcohol increases your reaction time and makes you a more dangerous driver. There should be an absolutely no toleration approach to any amount of alcohol before driving.

Just based on the title of this thread i think we should have a poll, to see if its true.

Now hoe does one get a hold of an admin to make a poll?

I doubt it would change much. The people causing trouble in the pubs are the sorts who were drinking out on the streets when they weren't old enough. The process just gets delayed. You're much more likely to get up to no good when drinking out on the street too so you could even say it will be worse for society.

The idiots who spoil nights out need proper punishment, not numerous slaps on the wrist.

It would work wonders for the police's dodgy crime figures. Just think of all those extra people in the 19-20 age bracket that they could stop, talk to and then enter in to the "crime solved" column.
