Blizzard MMO in the making for next-gen consoles?

256MB is plenty. MMOPRG's do tend to use loads but thats because they can. The genre has wored fairly well on last gen consoles, so there is no reason why they can't be as good as on the PC. I'm not saying it would be easy, but it would certainly be possible.

Well, quite frankly I don't think so, at least not in the format as they are on PC's. In WoW for example at can have ridiculous amounts of abilities, often 20-30 or more all of which you need instant access to in order to play the game properly (Ie a seperate key binding) . It would have to be in a different format for it to work, or they'd have to come up with some kind of solution which would be quite difficult, I've never seen it pulled off before. Every MMO type game on consoles that I have played has had some kind of lousy system where you can only bind 4 or so abilities at once.

Also regarding this MMO apparently it's going to be announced on May the 19th? Not sure if that's true, I've only heard it reported from a single game news site.

Funcom's Age Of Conan is being developed for the 360.

Actually, it's being developed for the PC.

And FFXI was a very successful MMO that was originally console-based. First console game to be patched, actually. And it integrated 'okay' with the PC versions.

I see no reason why this couldn't be a console MMO other than the fact that Blizzard prefer developing for PC. This doesn't mean anything though; if companies see money in developing an MMO for consoles then they'll do it.

MMO on console? Oh dear god there's not even enough buttons for it to work well.

You'll have to go through tons of menus and sub menus unless they add keyboard and mouse support which would give a MAJOR advantage when it comes to a player vs. player system.

People seem to forget that an MMO doesn't need to be an RPG, it doesn't need to have levels, or skills, or raids or complex control systems - it just needs Massively Multi-player and Online.

Creating a game that supports thousands of players in one game world is acheiveable on the 360 and PS3, so Blizzard developing for one or both of these systems seems plausable to me.

I'm with the rumours of it having a unique user interface, but moulded with as gameplay elements from wow they can pack into within the starcraft universe which they will have expanded with starcraft 2.

I mean where did starcraft ghost go, a lot of development did go into that game... turn what they had of a third person action game, give it top down or regular thirdperson controls, add in roleplaying character system if wanted and then work their magic

I mean look at the control systems from console rts games and even kotor series, all of them seemed to work very well even though K+M is hailed the only way to play with complex interfaces, rts games or fps games. Which just isn't quite the case anymore with all console controllers being simple but still versatile.

But as a fan of the blizzard ips i will keep my eye on the development of this and maybe attempt to get into any betas for it, i will admit i enjoyed the simplicity of wow and casualness of the the entire thing, i would have liked to have enjoyed eve aswell, i did try the trial, but i just cant maintain the intensity of the thing enough.

All of this is my speculation of course, feel free to complain at me as to why i'm wrong in any points.

For what an amzig game wow is i hope they sort the pvp game out.It really winds me up its called WARcraft nd they gimp the world pvp game which itr should be built around.

why does everyone assume you need to develop it for use with a controller?
Look at guitar Hero, Rock band, DDR. there is nothing to say it can't be sold with a keyboard as a peripheral needed to play the game.
FFXI for the PS2 even came bundled with an HDD so there is nothing to say that if someone develops an MMO for a console, they wont make it need a keyboard in order to play.

Consoles and MMO's just don't mix. It's like consoles and RTS's - there just isn't enough flexibility on a console to allow the mechanics of such games to really play out.

They'd lose a colossal amount of money by developing one for the consoles when the only platform they're suited to is the PC.

Na they wouldn't. Sure, millions subscribe to Wow. But they're invested in WoW. They're not gonna want to quit and start some other MMORPG. Plus, WoW subscriptions are still ridiculously strong. Blizzard would rather milk the console market before they "replace" WoW with another MMORPG.

http://www.blizzard.com/jobopp/

Look on the right hand side of the page, near the top under "Job Openings"

"Lead 3D Character Artist - Next-Gen MMO"
"Lead 3D Environment Artist - Next-Gen MMO"

They've already got WoW on the PC with a string of expansions on the way and they're raking it in, why would they be making another one for the PC? Also the fact that it states "Next gen" makes me think it's something for consoles.

Diablo III hopefully.

if beth studios got oblivion looking and playing superb on 'only' 256mb of ram i don't see why a mmo wouldn't work consoles only need a fraction of what pc's do as they are hauling around far less junk.
